Painters tape

not getting clean edges with this product

I have a lot of previous experience in the automotive refinishing industry and have probably applied miles of your 3M automotive masking tape to vehicles over the years and always had good success with your products.
I was dubious about your advertising claims shown on tv commercials with amazing results using the Scotch Blue tape in household masking applications. My own recent experience with this product has been less than satisfactory. I couldn't see how any masking tape applied over typical brush marks and common irregularities found in even the best interior painted surfaces could prevent the leakage underneath the tape, which seems to be the main challenge of getting clean lines.
My own results sure do confirm my suspicions and I also found that the tape doesn't really stick that well anywhere.

The ScotchBlue™ Painter´s Tape Delicate Surface with Edge-Lock 2080-EL is indeed recommended for faux painting applications including striping jobs where the surface is smooth and has been painted over 24 hours before applying the tape. We would expect this product to perform and leave clean paint lines. We also offer ScotchBlue™ Painter´s Tape Advanced Surface with Edge-Lock 2093-EL for textured or irregular surfaces. With both products we would expect a good clean paint line as long as it was applied as recommended. Scotch Blue delicate and advanced tapes are the only masking tape I use and recommend. It has great adhesion to surface, yet removes without damaging the attached structure. The crisp, sharp, clean line on the finished projects is always there. This is one tape that will not disappoint the consumer. Please continue to market this fine product. Dagrae Wall Creations

I am so thankful for this tape. It applies easily to surfaces, which means removing it from freshly painted walls is easier. I especially like the fact that I end up with crisp clean edges after removing the tape. It makes amateur work look like a pro.

This new Scotch Blue edge lock tape is outstanding. The original was good. But sometimes did not give me the clean, crisp edge I was looking for when painting. Now that is all changed. And here's to 3M for improving a good product into an EXCELLENT product!!!

I was doing a project, where I was using two paints to accent an area of my house. using the scotch blue allowed me to get crisp fine lines with no overrun or mess.

Product does not do what it says!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I researched the 3 different types of scotch blue tapes. We had used a different brand of tape in the past because they guaranteed edge lock protection, and experienced paint leaked past the edges of the tape. So I decided to use the tried and true product, the one that's been around forever. SAME THING. I'm very disappointed. We had painted a color on the top half of the room and a color on the bottom half of the room. A day later, we put the edge lock tape to mask off a 2 inch 'stripe' and then I painted the open area. After pulling the tape off, there was brown bleeding onto my freshly painted walls! I now have to go back and take a tiny brush and touch up to try to get as straight a line as I can. I'm VERY disappointed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
