This device works, and the industrial design feels pretty nice. But it feels like a tech gadget (not a good thing). You have to create an account to use the app at all, ridiculous for a kitchen device. Thankfully, you can operate the device without the app. Frustratingly, the screen turns off after a few minutes, forcing you to walk over and press the power button to read the temperature. The ambient sensor is also bizarrely slow: in a 300+ degree preheated oven, it climbs puzzlingly spent from room temperature to the actual oven temperature. When compared to other kitchen timers and food thermometers that get out of your way and just work, this one is imbued with the needy design patterns endemic in tech companies: forced login, overpowered in ways that aren't useful, and letting secondary functions get in the way of nailing the basics.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This thermometer is very nice and sleek. The base is quite heavy and well made. The thermometer part is nice, sharp and easy to use. I rated 4 stars because the name is quite misleading. I was under the impression the thermometer would sync with the air fryer, but this doesn’t happen. When you select the”smart” option on the thermometer, I would assume the air fryer would cook until the meat reaches the desired temperature. But in reality you have to keep increasing the time on the air fryer until the base of the thermometer beeps; they do not sync to each other. It works great, but it’s not what I feel is advertised.

The device looks good, and probably performs as well also. I haven't had a chance to use it as meat prices are outrageous. One day I will be able to and will be happy to get the correct temperature

Worth doing research first

I did a lot of research before ordering this unit. I actually ordered a single and a double set. It works very well, easy and intuitive to use. Don't need a degree from MIT to use it. I have only gone about 300 foot away and it works fine without needing an internet connection. Put it in your pocket and check the temperatures of your meat without being tethered to your cell phone.

Bought with the air fryer. I got it because I figured I would need it for steak, but haven't cooked one yet. The meat I did cook, I really didn't need it. But when I cook a cowboy, I am sure it will come in handy.

So far so good. I've used it 4 or 5 times now–including the smoker, grill, and the oven. Only one thing, which is not a big deal, but the ambient temp usually isn't reliable.
