Good Hardware…Beware,Tech Support can cost you!!

I have had my modem/router for two years without incident until recently. I Purchased this because I did not want to have to pay a rental fee every month to the cable company. Recently I had trouble connecting to the Internet and the cable company assured me it was not on their side. When I called Netgear, I waited an hour and a half on the phone just to speak to a tech support rep!!!!!!!! The gentleman on the phone was super nice and courteous, we went through how to reset the router, but still no Internet. He assured me that the hardware was OK, but that I would have to purchase a tech agreement to check the software. That’s ridiculous! The tech agreement was nearly the price of the router/modem to begin with! I had no idea this was how Netgear operated! I thought that the tech would help you with troubleshooting the software as well….NOPE! I told him, I may as well go out and buy a brand new modem router for the price of the tech agreement!! So after 2 hours (waiting an hour and a half and being on the phone for half an hour).. I hung up the phone with no resolution! Fortunately, the problem resolved itself a few days later… The network popped back up working OK!!??? I do want to give kudos to the tech support guy on the phone though, I know his hands were “tied” By the NETGEAR company and he could only do so much without making me pay for a tech agreement. He was extremely nice, polite and courteous.

Decent but drops connection occasionally

This modem router is generally good but sometimes drops connection when too many devices try to connect to it. I've noticed that when a guest comes to my house, sometimes just the presence of their smartphone or laptop will cause the internet (both Wi-Fi and ethernet) to stop working despite no outages in the area reported by my ISP.
