Netgear AC1600 Cable Modem Router

I received this router and it worked well from the beginning and then the speed degraded quickly. Overall the connections have been ok but the speed has definitely been slow and now with new router have proven the speed is there and so the router is performing poorly.

Works great but setup was a pain

It took me 3 hours to get it working: i spent an hour with Comcast who said it looks good from their end, so call Netgear. I called Netgear and was on hold for 25 mins only to get a rep who I could hardly understand -then after 20 mins we got cut off. I called Comcast back and got a super rep who, after a long diagnosis, had me try IE browser and it worked (I had tried Chrome and Firefox). So after 3 hours it was as simple as using IE browser (even though Netgear instructions say open with any browser).

I stream everything on my TVs, and my AC1600 has solved the issues I was having with my old modem/router. It also provides better security for my laptop, iPad and iPhones. I’m very happy with it, and glad I made the switch.

Better than my current M500 modem and was easy to fix and configure. But i have some hiccups sometimes while I work from home. My VPN keeps giving trouble. Need to find out what’s wrong.

The downside is you have to download the apps in order for you to be able to change the router name and the preset password. I just want simplicity, not a crowded apps on my phone.

A good modem/router for its cost

We have been using this modem/router for nearly 6 months and have had very few problems. There have probably been two occasions when we have needed to do a hard reset due to throttled bandwidth, and my iOS devices cannot connect to the 2.4 gHz network for some reason, but other than that, happy with the purchase!
