Not without flaws…

I bought this a couple weeks ago. I have two dogs who shed year around. I’m coming from my second Dyson animal upright. The first Dyson was a beast, lasted well over a decade and had a huge dust bin. The second DA—redesigned to be smaller, lighter, I’ve never liked the “ball” and started dying about 3 years in. Dyson definitely gone downhill so I thought I’d give Shark a try.
First, the good. This Vaccuum has terrific suction! It’s very powerful and lifts hair on carpet and hard floor with no problem, ( with one caveat). The floor roller piece is every bit as maneuverable and easy to fit under the edge of furniture as a Dyson ball. I like the light in the front to illuminate dog hair I can’t normally see.
The no-so bad. It’s considerably heavier than current Dyson Animal upright and harder to push across thicker carpet/rugs, but with a large dust bin and powerful motor I expected as much. I also haven’t experienced the clogging of the brush head roller those with the power detect models seem to happen when dealing with heavily shedding dogs. It makes me wonder if the issue in the power detect isn’t caused by the reverse-pick up feature. Or, perhaps I just haven’t used it long enough yet.
The actual bad - The caveat from before? This Vaccuum doesn’t do well transitioning from rugs to hard floors. It misses picking up pretty much anything along the edges of a rug on top of hard floor. When it loses full-floor connection, the suction ceases to exist (this was never a problem with my Dyson uprights so I suspect it’s a design issue). I thought about exchanging for edge detect in the higher level model, but according to reviews, the feature doesn’t really work on the Power Detect to pick up dirt/hair/anything in the transition area anyway.
Probably my biggest issue and the big reason I almost returned the Stratos - the lift away hose is extremely short! Anytime I try to use the hose, I bring the whole Vaccuum over on its side… multiple times per cleaning session! Every. Single. Time… Again, I almost returned it because of this issue which seems like an easy fix design-wise with a more flexible hose that will stretch a greater distance from the machine and also eliminate the need for lift away, which is its own issue.
Lift away is NOT practical for me (and I suspect other pet parents) because then the vaccuum ithen ties up both of your hands. That sucks (no pun intended) when you need to use one hand to, say, hold the drapes in order to vaccuum the dog hair and dust from them.
The combo short/hose or lift away has created a puzzle for my I’ve yet to solve without a second set of hands or an extra (handheld) Vaccuum.
It lacks on board tool storage and the bag is just annoying. I’ve also tried swapping the pet rotary tool with the upholstery tool storage on the machine which doesnt work but will also result in damage to the attachment neck of the rotary tool.
Smaller issues - the tool bag flying around or running to another attachment from the tool bag is slightly annoying.
It has a short power cord. I’ve had to attach an extension cord I leave on all the time because otherwise I have to replug several time (5) just to do the quarter of the house we live in most.
Definitely not without its flaws, but I’m hoping I can adjust to the issues. However, for me? The biggest straw was the powerful suction, in this vacuum definitely pulls that off. But, thats part of the reason why I find the small design flaws that could be easily corrected so disappointing for a vacuum in this price range They are not expensive fixes, Shark engineers, they’re just poor execution brought on likely by trying to increase profit margin.
However, only time will tell if I decide to buy another shark vacuum…

Not repairable
on July 17, 2026
Posted by: Mighty_Pete
This model does not have a user repairable floor head. You can only remove one of the rollers for cleaning. When the main roller stops spinning due to wear or jams, you will need a new vacuum cleaner.
This is a large step back from the previous Shark vacuum I owned. I am unlikely to buy another Shark if this is the trend for all of their new models.

The best on all floors!

I absolutely love the shark Stratos I have two at my home and bought one for my son. We both have multiple pets so the vacs get daily use! It can be used on wood floors with no scratching at all and on carpets without changing anything! I used to have a Miele canister and this vaccum is so much more user friendly!

Huge disappointment !

Huge disappointment! The power fins on the roller that are suppose to grab the pet hair are just thin strips of rubber that wear off in a couple months. Once there gone you might as well be using a sweeper because it no longer picks up pet hair. The only reason i bought this machine was because it was suppose to be so great at picking up pet hair and its failed to do that.

I recently bought this shark stratos and it works excellent for vacuuming up my two dogs and two cats hair on my carpet.
But shortly after using the product the tab to release the bottom door latch has already broken and that is frustrating.
