Overpriced, hard to install and use.

On the whole, the Nest thermostat is more hype than substance. The whole C-wire thing is a mess - why does the cheaper (non learning model) need a C-wire, but the costlier one doesn't? Why does one come with a face plate, and the other doesn't?I tried the learning thing, it is useless. So I turned it off.I want eco temp at day, and specific temp at night - can't do that.On the whole, a waste.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nest Learning Thermostat offers 95% compatibility with 24V HVAC systems, while Nest Thermostat offers 85%. The Nest Thermostat will require a C wire in order to make it compatible with your system.
For schedule, you can try doing the following:
Create your temperature presets:
- Go to temperature preference> Temperature presets > Create a custom temperature or edit the Eco temperature.
Create a new schedule:
- Settings > Schedules > Add > Select temperature preset > select start time > Add to event > done.

So easy to install

We purchased two thermostats to replace our original ones. Once you verify that your system is compatible with the Nest, the thermostat is very easy to install. The instructions are easy to follow. The app is easy to use too. Hopefully it'll be easier to make my system more efficient.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Google should do better

We were excited to get the new Nest only to open it and see it’s plastic compared to aluminum/metal before, can tell it’s made pretty cheap. Don’t not like how I had to load the Nest onto the Google Home app and that it no longer can work on my Nest app. The Google Home app makes it confusing to adjust temperature. We woke up during the night to see the temp adjusted to 64 and I put it up to 70 only to wake up again a few hours later at 64. Fortunately I kept the old Nest just going to reinstall.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good but not actually compatible with older homes

We purchased the Nest thermostat because our house has had the same thermostat for over 30 years before we even moved in. We wanted to upgrade to a thermostat that could regulate the heat. We used the On Tech installation service but when he came to install it, he said our C-wire was not providing enough power to the thermostat. The previous thermostat worked perfectly fine with the cables that are there but now, we're in search of someone to solve this problem for us and most of the electricians we've found don't seem to understand how the Nest works or what the issue is. Currently, our Nest is running on AAA batteries we have to constantly replace. It does the job but if I knew that the C-wire was going to be an issue, I would've never purchased this.

The Nest Thermostat works with most systems without a common(C) wire, but some systems such as heat-only, cool-only or single stage heat pumps with/without AUX heat require a common(C) wire to work.

Doesn't stay connected

Works as a programmable thermostat, but 2-3x a day it will drop from the wifi and not reconnect on it's own without being reset.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It's important to make sure that the thermostat is getting enough power from your system wires as the connectivity issue of your thermostat is related to power issues. If your HVAC unit can’t supply enough power, the thermostat battery will start draining, and this results in your thermostat limiting its features such as Wi-Fi connection to preserve battery.

It's a little more complicated the the nest E I currently have. I would recommend the Nest E or the more recent one than this one. It's okay. I am moving so I am not going to change it out.
