Do not buy!!!

Eco mode on this sucks. Can not turn it off so it will change the temp all by itself even if you're home. If you don't walk by it for a period of time it will change temp. automatically.

NO LOCK Feature!

Please note that this model does not come with the LOCK/password function, which is the only reason why i need a smart thermostat. If its the same case for you, need to look for alternatives.

Two wire situation is confusing.

I am writing this review to make sure others are aware of what is actually involved with a 2 wire set-up. This was not clear to me when I started and I had to back-out twice and eventually ran a new thermostat wire.
The confusion comes from multiple past versions of this thermostat with different claims in different videos. It also comes from a lack of documentation with the thermostat, as it is left up to the phone app to walk you through everything. The only way to make this thermostat work with two wires is to also get the Nest power connector (or run a new 3 wire line). Older Nest thermostats could work with 2 wires, but this one needs power for its internet connection, motion detection, display, and running its software.
The power connector goes near the furnace with a short 3 wire connector to the furnace and then a 2 wire connection going to the thermostat. The 3 wires are the red (power) wire, the white (furnace heating control return), and the power return (common). The 2 wires are effectively the red and common to power the Nest thermostat. Actual control of the furnace is done by WIRELESS communication between the power thermostat and the power connector. This allows 3 wire function with only 2 wires. This is quire confusing as not enough is explained in the power connector instructions, except how to wire it up.
Once I knew what was really required I ran a new thermostat wire. The Nest thermostat is now working quire well and I can remotely monitor the heat at my cottage and change the setting if I require. No more arriving to a cold cottage in the winter.
There are a few other comments but the 2 wire issue is the most important.
1. Needed to supply an up to date credit card info just to download the app to my phone.
2. Needed an up to date phone that scans QR codes to do the setup (my old phone did not do that).
3. Needed to wait quite a while to update the thermostat software (and I have quite fast internet for a cottage).
4. Found the set-up was pushing tutorials which should have been available in paper form. Later, once set up, not sure where to get the tutorials.
5. The thermostat base is quite small so past thermostat screw holes are visible. I made a small wood panel with a hole for the wires to go through and the thermostat to mount it on. Others have ways to adapt light switch panels.
6. The tabs to allow the wires to connect are small and flimsy compared to the wire connection screws at the furnace.
7. Had issues with the phone app. I could add new times of the day to change heat settings (with the plus sign) but did not know how to delete an unwanted time. You must select a setting time and use the trash icon at the top.

Best option for my old thermostat
