Requires C wire

We have had an existing Nest Learning Thermostat for years, and love it (the original style, with rotating dial). We figured we may as well add another, for a different zone in the house. The new thermostat seems like it will do the trick, but isn't as nice as the original. The display is limited, and doesn't show the current weather, like the other one. We found that it wouldn't work with our system, and I had to install the C wire. (this wasn't required for the original). To change the temperature or adjust settings, you have to slide finger up and down on the right side cover of this unit, vs spinning dial and touching screen. If looking for a cheap replacement that you will be controlling from the app anyways, it's decent. If you will be manually adjusting, or lack a C wire, I suggest the better model.

Though Nest thermostats would generally work without a common(C) wire, there are some systems that would require a C wire on the new Nest Thermostat like a heat only or cool only systems. Disappointing model - features

I am a big proponent of Nest products and the platform in general as I was an early adopter of the original Nest/Dropcam dating back to 2016 or so. I have since outfitted multiple homes with various Nest products, including thermostats, indoor cameras, outdoor cameras and smoke detectors; however, this particular model of thermostat is different from what I am used to. Mainly the new glass interface and lack of turn knob functionality has been replaced with swipe gestures, which are nuanced and confusing to operate. However, my biggest issue with this generation is that for some reason Google decided to not make it compatible with the Nest app but only with the Google Home app. So now I have a one-off product in a separate app from all of my others, which is annoying to say the least. I would not recommend this particular model and would urge potential buyer's to read the fine print around model compatibility!

It's great...when it doesn't disconnect from the wifi

A few times it disconnects from Wi-Fi for no apparent reason and following the troubleshooting info takes you down a rabbit hole.

1. Restart your thermostat.
- Go to Settings > Reset > Restart.
2. Reset and check your home's Internet connection.
3. Reset your Nest thermostat's network settings.
- Go to Settings > Reset > Network settings > Choose Reset.
4. Check your router's firewall settings.
5. Check for possible sources of interference.

Great features! Sleek design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just upgraded from an original nest to this G2 model. The install was really simple, the physical part was fine. It was slight more difficult getting it to talk to the app, but overall pretty easy. Learning to control the dial by hand is a lot tricker than the original, but probably won’t take long to get good at it. If adjusting mode from heat, cool or fan or changing temperature using the app is really simple and fast. overall I highly recommend this smart thermostat. It works great. It has great features especially for adjusting controls when you’re not home or setting up patterns for heat and cool. This is a slick product. It’s beautiful on the wall. It works really well. You can’t go wrong! Get one!
