Had it installed two weeks ago as part of my Electric company’s plan. So far impressed with its function and my ability to control it.

Nest learning thermostat

Easy to install but the set up took 3 tries and a 4th time after a factory reset. It kept losing wifi connection.. setup shouldn't be so difficult and it shouldn't need a professional to install it. This should be something any home owner should be capable of doing on their own.

Hi James U, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you’re having a connectivity issue with Nest Thermostat.
Connectivity issues for Nest Thermostat may be caused by several reasons such as Wi-Fi network congestion, distance of the device from the router, wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or devices nearby and other Wi-Fi settings.
Dual band connection should be compatible with Nest Thermostat. 2.4Ghz is more stable compared to 5Ghz especially if there’s a lot of devices connected to the same network at the time and we are glad that you're able to connect it.

Too bad they discontinued this model.

Got this model because we already had two. My son bought me the first one, the expensive one, and we just added on from there. First I got the newest one for my last zone, but it needs a "C" wire which we don't have, and don't feel like tearing down a bunch of sheetrock to make it work. So we found one of the older, discontinued ones, like our others. If you have just a red and white wire, look around on the internet, and get one of these older Nest-E thermostats.

Solid Nest Product (update available though)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m a huge fan of Google Nest products and most of our smart home system is on their stack. I had the Nest Thermostat E at another home before installing the Gen2, and it was interesting to see the differences.
Installation wise, the two products are nearly identical. As with other Nest products, it was easy to follow the instructions. We just unscrewed the old thermostat, snapped in the 5 coloured wires, screwed it back on and everything turned on. The battery started charging and Google directed us to the website to download the app to complete the rest of the setup.
Compared to the E, this thermostat is about 10% larger and thicker. Instead of a frosted white surface it’s a mirror finish. The thermostat uses a touch screen instead of a dial. Some things are nicer for this, but I really liked the tactile click and turn of the E. Compared to Gen1, 2 is supposed to be smaller, and the newer version that’s out is even thinner (but still thicker than the E)
I like the Nest as a thermostat but do find I end up turning off some of the auto scheduling. If you manually override any settings, it tends to learn weird preferences. I see some other negative reviews about it – I don’t really use this feature, so I’m still happy with the product for being able to remotely manage the thermostat, and for general ease of setup and use.
Unless you’re actively repainting or fixing your house, I recommend getting the trim plate in case your old thermostat is not exactly the same size. Between the Nest E and Nest, I find the E good enough for most cases, but the fact the new Nest supports the sensors is something I'll be looking into further.

Do not like anything about the Nest Thermostat. Not easy to install, C wire issues, no battery life. The functionality of the thermostat is terrible. The touch bar on the side is a poor design and tough to use

Hi Ryan, thanks for sharing your feedback on Nest Thermostat, and it’s unfortunate to learn that it didn’t quite meet your expectations.
The Nest Thermostat receives power from your HVAC system. It also uses 2 AAA alkaline batteries as a backup, or to supplement if your system can’t deliver enough power. If there’s a power issue and the backup batteries get low, your Nest Thermostat will let you know with a low battery message in the Home app and on the display. You can easily replace the batteries with new ones.
The Google Home app will guide you all the way through checking compatibility, installation, and setup. It will help you select all the right options for you and your home. Here’s the link that may help you get started with your Nest Thermostat: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10125150
Also, we designed the Nest Thermostat to provide a more simplified interface. Apart from the touchbar on the right side, Nest Thermostat is designed with ease of use in the Home app, even when you’re not at home to change the target temperature, select a mode, use temperature presets, change thermostat settings and a lot more. To learn more about the Home app control that includes video tutorial for a brief overview, here’s a link for you: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9249866
We're taking your feedback seriously to work on improving our products and services. And for any support needs that you may have, our dedicated team will always be ready to help you, here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Nest Is Best

Easy to install; easy to use; easy to buy. Has given me remote access from another state, and the ability to adjust my home's comfort level from bed! One extreme to the other, both just as easy.
