Nest thermostat

It worked amazing at first but then it just stopped working and ruined the place the heat was coming from

Nice display design. User interface not intuitive.

A good looking product. Unfortunately it does not come with a mounting backplate (extra $) and the plate Nest sells (only one design) does not work for my application as it would not cover the hole from the old thermostat completely. I found a nice 3rd party option on the internet but it would be nice if Nest offered more than one backplate design. The user interface is not intuitive. I am constantly ending up in the wrong menu. The display goes blank until you approach it (motion detection?). I am not sure this is useful and I would rather a constant display that I could read from across the room. Connection to the Google home App was also not as intuitive as it could be. Typical of many Google products that work well but the user interface is wanting. I had hoped Nest would be a little better. Since this is the base Nest Thermostat, perhaps the more expensive units are better? This replaced a Honeywell Wifi thermostat that while not as attractive as the nest, was far easier to use!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got this to replace our circa 1980 thermostat. Because we like to sleep in a cold room, but want to get up to a warnm house there was uch arguing over who was fgoing to brave the cold house to turn up the heat. (midwest winters are not for the timid). We also liked to turn down the heat when we were at work or away, but again, did not like coming home to a cold house. The Nest G2 has solved all that and more. Installation took DH less than 30 minutes, we also got the trim plate to help hide the rectangular mess left behind when he removed the old T-Stat. He said it was very easy, most anyone could do it. Once it was in and powered up we downloaded the Google Home App on our phones and the fun began.
I love that it allows us to program it it to create an energy efficient schedule, but what is even coooler is that it allows us to remotely change the thermostat temperature from our iPhones anywhere. This means that if we are coming home early and normally the house would be cold we can tell it using the app to turn the temp to whatever we want. It is great and we are looking forward to lower utility costs and greater comfort.

I would recommend a bug fix that the device disconnects to the wifi network when low voltage battery is detected

Great features

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this about three weeks ago, to replace my very old one. I really love that i can control and manage settings from any where with the Google Home app. I did notice that you do have to do most of your settings from the app and not on your thermostat it's self. But I'm ok with that.
Great product and great features.

Buy the older model

It looks great but it is much harder to use than the older model. I would buy the older other model over this one for ease of use.

Not very smart

Looks great on wall but won’t respond to presence sensing and location services to go from home to away. Been with t3ch support 5 times and no help. Frustrating
