Great thermostat.. buggy home app

I purchased two of these for my two HVAC units. The thermostats were pretty easy to physically install. The trouble came with trying to configure the Wi-fi on the 2020 models. The new models removed the ability to manually configure the Wi-fi and the Google home app was having issues connecting it. I'm using a Pixel phone to connect a Nest thermostat to a Nest mesh Wi-fi. This should be the easiest configuration ever. After two hours of trying every trick I know, I spent 3 hours on tech support and went through every trick they knew. Two days later an engineer recommended creating a new home location in the app and adding it to a new home. For whatever reason that worked. Since getting past that hurdle the thermostat has been wonderful.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What is there not to love?

I love the control I have over my home's heating and air conditioning now. I can adjust it when leaving work so that when I get home it's just how I like it without having to waste power all day.

Great Thermostat

Love the new modern look. I previously had the Nest Learning Thermostat which did no work for me and my husband. Now schedUling is a breeze through the Google app. Also, I don’t have to worry about the thermostat turning the temperature up in them middle of the night. I can easily change the temp on the device. Kudos to Google for a more economic model thermostat.

It lasted not a week! One morning it said it was off line and gave this 84 year old old woman ten ways to deal with it and I couldn’t❗️ I still had to climb the stairs to adjust the temperature and if I had been out of town it would have been even worse❗️I had it removed and a regular thermostat put in downstairs. I would never recommend it to older folks.

It’s important to make sure that the thermostat is getting enough power from your system wires as the connectivity issue of your thermostat is related to power issues. If your HVAC unit is unable to supply enough power, the thermostat battery will start draining, and this results in your thermostat limiting its features such as Wi-Fi connection to preserve battery. The resolution may be to install a common (C) wire in your system to deliver constant power to the thermostat. The power resolution will also help fix the connectivity issue. We recommend contacting a Nest Pro technician to check your system first and install a common (C) wire if needed.

A downgrade from the original nest

Mechanically this is much more difficult to use than the old nest. The same goes for programming. For some unknown reason it changes the air conditioning to 85° several times a day without prompting.It goes into Eco mode even though I have it disabled.Very disappointing
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
