I’ve had several OXO kitchen scales over the years. I’m impressed by how well made they are and how long they last.

Be careful with small amounts.

I have used this scale for a couple of years now and have relied on it being accurate. Today I discovered that when weighing very small quantities, this scale does not always display the accurate measure. My baguette recipe calls for 3g of instant yeast. My usual method is to place a condiment dish on the scale and tare to zero, then pour yeast into the dish until the scale reads 3g. Today when measuring yeast the scale continued to read 0 until I had poured an unusually large amount of yeast into the dish. I questioned this amount and noted on the internet that 1/2 tsp of yeast should weigh 2.8g. I tried an experiment with the OXO scale. I spooned out 1/2 tsp of yeast and poured it into the zeroed dish (which weighs 75g) and the scale indicated 2g. Adding a small additional amount of yeast yielded a reading of 3g. I then emptied the dish and reset the scale and proceeded to pour the yeast from the jar. The scale displayed 0g. I waited and poured additional yeast and the scale continued to display 0g. I then lifted the dish from the scale and the display read -79g. A difference of 4g from the initial weight of the dish. I placed the dish back on the scale and the display read 0g. Thinking that the scale platter somehow got stuck I repeated the process. The results were identical. When I measured the yeast with a spoon and poured the entire contents into the dish at once the scale measured correctly, however, when I slowly poured the yeast from the jar the scale mismeasured the yeast by a significant amount. It appears that I cannot trust this scale to be accurate at small weights when slowly adding the ingredient.

This scale is just perfect for my volume of baking. Small family and in particular my favorite of bread baking.

Very happy with this kitchen scale

With my old scale, there would be a lag between my adding food to a bowl and the weight registering on the scale - this either slowed me down or led to mistakes. The Oxo scale is much faster and therefore easier to use. Because of the pull-out screen, I can use larger bowls/plates when I need to.

After 2 other competitor brands failed prematurely, this is my second purchase after experiencing great results for almost a year with my first purchase. I now have scales in the basement where I grind grain and in the kitchen.

Every kitchen needs one

This is my second scale. It sounds silly but after having one i cant imagine doing without. When i serious bake the difference between cup measuring and scale measuring gives different results. It doesnt take up much room for something that once you have will use reguarly
