Favorite scale

This has been my favorite scale so far. It’s accurate and I love the pull out display. I actually use it more for mailing packages than as a kitchen scale. I’ve used it for years without issue.

I don't know what its doing

I loved this scale when we first got it per recommendation of ATK. But a few months ago I started to notice inaccuracies. I ground coffee, weighed it, scale said 50g. I walked for a few moments and when I came back scale was reading much higher than 50g. Regularly I will weigh (coffee is daily) then place on scale and readout will give one number. Then after about 15 seconds will gradually start to increase. I've changed the batteries. I've dusted under shelf. I've used various surfaces. I have no idea what it's weighing but something isn't right.

Be careful with small amounts.

I have used this scale for a couple of years now and have relied on it being accurate. Today I discovered that when weighing very small quantities, this scale does not always display the accurate measure. My baguette recipe calls for 3g of instant yeast. My usual method is to place a condiment dish on the scale and tare to zero, then pour yeast into the dish until the scale reads 3g. Today when measuring yeast the scale continued to read 0 until I had poured an unusually large amount of yeast into the dish. I questioned this amount and noted on the internet that 1/2 tsp of yeast should weigh 2.8g. I tried an experiment with the OXO scale. I spooned out 1/2 tsp of yeast and poured it into the zeroed dish (which weighs 75g) and the scale indicated 2g. Adding a small additional amount of yeast yielded a reading of 3g. I then emptied the dish and reset the scale and proceeded to pour the yeast from the jar. The scale displayed 0g. I waited and poured additional yeast and the scale continued to display 0g. I then lifted the dish from the scale and the display read -79g. A difference of 4g from the initial weight of the dish. I placed the dish back on the scale and the display read 0g. Thinking that the scale platter somehow got stuck I repeated the process. The results were identical. When I measured the yeast with a spoon and poured the entire contents into the dish at once the scale measured correctly, however, when I slowly poured the yeast from the jar the scale mismeasured the yeast by a significant amount. It appears that I cannot trust this scale to be accurate at small weights when slowly adding the ingredient.

Worked great until I used the pull-out feature

Was great until I measured items in a large bowl & used the pull-out display feature. After that the display was inconsistent & numbers did not display in full. I could guess the weight by subtracting & adding product until I could see the display. Annoying. Will get another brand next.

Eats batteries

I like the scale, but ours has VERY short battery life. I can put in fresh batteries and in just a week of light use the scale displays the “LO” battery indicator. It shut down in the middle of meal prep with batteries that were in use for just a few days. Is this normal?

We have one of these and love it - bought this one for our son, who was excited to get it. Use it for everything from figuring out what an actual serving size should look like, to portioning out my veggies for smoothies - and of course, baking. It's really the only way to bake.
