MS-450Ci Jam Proof Micro-Cut Shredder

We were using a Fellowes PS-80 cross-cut shredder for years and it finally died. We replaced it with the MS-450Ci micro-cut shredder from Fellowes. Wow! It is extremely quiet. You barely hear it at all and can talk on the phone while shredding. The micro-cut produces very small 5/64 by 25/64 - inch pieces. THis provides maximum security against dumpster divers trying to steal your identity. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The shredder can also be used on credit cards and CDs or DVDs that are to be discarded. The antijam feature works great. This shredder definately deserves the five star rating. Having pets and grand kids visiting in the house, it is also a nice feature that there are two (2) switched that must be turned on before the shredder will run. This adds to the overall safety. As a registered professional mechanical engineer, I can really appreciate this micro-cut shredder and its features. This shredder costs a little more than other shredders on the market, but you get what you pay for! Fellowes hit a home run with this shredder!

Good choice

We have used Fellowes shredders for a number of years. This unit, if it hold up as anticipated, is the best yet. The last one lasted for about ten years.

MS-450Ci Quiet, Quick, Efficient

Though more expensive than many "consumer" models of shredders, since our purchase 2 months ago, the Fellowes MS-450Ci appears to be quality built. Directions are clear and concise, operation is quiet, quick, and smooth.
The only negatives are minor for home and home office use: The number of sheets is limited (7) since the shredder cuts to such fine particles, but since it is quick, this is not a real negative. Since the particles are so small, some float out of bin and need to be picked up when the bin is emptied (use a DustBuster and problems are minimized). Every bin empty, we are oiling the shredder, something we never realized we should have done with previous shredders (never mentioned in their data sheets).
The MS-450Ci can be jammed, but it allows the jam to automatically renew cutting when possible OR it may be backed out (I have chosen to back out, since I prefer preventing any damage to the cutters from an overload--not actually an overload, but the paper thickness was much greater than standard 20lb. paper, so the 450 refused to continue shredding until I removed the other pages I had also attempted to shred...minor negative).
We have been VERY happy with the operation of this shredder, especially since we have only purchased inexpensive, loud, and inefficient shredders in the past. We leave it turned on, but the power button off until necessary to use. The delay is minimal. Currently using oiling sheets, but will try the oil bottle (came with unit) when the sheets run out.

Great Replacement

Relpaced older shredder with MS-450Ci 100% Jam Proof Micro-Cut Shredder. So far, it has lived up to it specs. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a quiet, fast, and safe machine.

Cons: Mess Reduction, somewhat messy when emptied due to static.

Doesn't quite fit my needs

I bought this shredder for my home office and I use it for approximately 10 minutes each day. I've had it for a few weeks now and am not real impressed. It works good, and is very secure (micro cut), but it takes longer to shred than it should. This machine does not accept 7 sheets like it advertises; I can shred a max of 5 at one time. I have to insert the papers a few inches into the machine before it turns on (this must be the secure feature), so is very hard to shred small pieces of paper like Post-Its and business cards. Because when you are trying to get the paper down in the slot, if you touch around the edge, it won't turn on; that must be the safety feature.
If I could do this over again, I would not purchase this machine. I would still purchase a micro-cut for security, but would look for one with less safety features & jam resistance, and would accept a minimum (truly) of 15 sheets at a time.

Keeps my house clean!

Until the postal service goes out of business, this shredder is perfect for shredding all the unsolicited daily mail that has too much personal information on it to simply toss in the waste basket. Good purchase!
