Bad Text Notifications

I bought this phone and was hopeful it would be easy to use and informative. However if any one knows of the answer to my problem I would appreciate the help. When I send a text and a reply is sent back, the phone will not notify me of any replies to any text unless I clear the text window. So after I send one I will not automatically get an audio notification when the reply arrives.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
