The 1050 is a superior design and the ability to brighten the screen increases the viewing angle to make the unit a pleasure to use. If you have an Ebike there are new metrics to track your ride.There are additional upgrades, that improves this computer the USC C port is appreciated.

Can actually read the map now. Wish they kept all buttons found on Edge 840

Main benefit over other units is a useable brightness and contrast. Its easier to customize screens. However, the retail cost without a heavy discount is hard to justify in my opinion.
Gave up on edge 840 because the map was very hard to discern in sunlight while wearing sunglasses.
On 1050 the Touchscreen when wet is very hard too impossible to use and I wish it kept all buttons found on 840. Last week I had a Wipeout without injury in the rain and the emergency alert function countdown started but I could not cancel it because of the wet screen made the screen inert!
Like other edge units, this one is also plagued with occasional pop-up sensor alert screens that cannot be dismissed. The only recourse is to do a hard power off. In my case I had to forget Bluetooth pairing and re-pair the sensor on ANT+
I also wish the auto light adjustment had a offset preference. Its always WAY dimmer than I prefer, except at night.
Does Garmin actually have cyclists do field tests before releasing their products???

Great upgrade from the 830

A great upgrade from the 830. The speaker is great especially when racing strange courses to get turn instructions without having to look down. The unit is visible in direct sunlight. The ability to have a large display is wonderful.

I always use Garmin Cycling computers. battery life is great and never have any issues. I have completed five double century rides and never worry about battery life. I highly recommend this product to beginners or experts.
