Switched from 1030 to the 1050…and love it. It doesn’t do anything my 1030 did..,however, the screen is so bright and snappy processing is very noticeable. It feel so solid in your hand and the WiFi and blutooth is much more reliable.
I am a little older so I could not hear my 1030 beep when my Varia went off. The 1050 has a speaker and I am so thankful since I can hear those alarms so much better. I have even had to turn the volume down! Some features like Apple Pay..,is a little silly.
It is expensive but that is just the way it is.
I hoped that it would make me faster…but it did not help any with that issue.
I appreciate the bright and vivid colors, the display is sharp and easy to read. The power meter and sensors connected flawlessly. This is a huge step forward in the display quality. Really hard to find flaws. I can nitpick, it’s a little on the heavy side, but that doesn’t matter to me I’m not gonna win any tour stages anytime soon, also the 1050 is so new it’s hard to find tempered glass screen protectors that fit properly. The tempered glass have fits wonky, but I just wanna protect that beautiful screen.
It works and does everything it says it should. I just don’t love it. Relearning the new noises for the varia radar and direction prompts are taking longer than expected to learn. I don’t know if I think the speaker is better.
I like the computer itself, very nice screen and easy to use. My problem lies with the change in mounting position. It won’t fit on my road bikes with the current mounts and I’m not going to change them all. Will keep the 1040 and send this back.
I had an Edge 350 that died, I think it was the battery. This is a big upgrade from a cost standpoint, but worth it. The hardware seems really well made. I ride in an area with a tree canopy covering me (nice in the summer!) and noticed that the GPS works much better than my 350, picking up my speed much more quickly and accurately. The only complaint I have is the menu system. It is a little confusing, but is much more complete than the 350. The larger screen and screen quality is a big step up.
Been using Garmin Edge products for over twenty years. Some great improvements over my prior 1030+. Only disappointment is that it has more difficulty connecting with my Varia radars than the 1030+ which had occasional issues with the radar. Screen is superior, great for all weather and sunglasses. Wish I had a more control over which sounds made by each feature (food reminder, radar) but far superior to prior 1030+. USB C, is more convenient than micro USB of 1030+. Like some of the new data fields with average and max included. Waiting on developers to update some of my Connect IQ data fields.
