I've been using it for 15 days
I really liked the screen and how it reacts to changes in lighting. Before, I used the Edge 1040 solar

I've progressed with the releases and finally have a display that I can see in all lighting conditions. A HUGE upgrade on screen. I toiled over giving up the solar charging of the 1040 solar in exchange for the screen. Would do it all over again. Love the added bike bell feature!

Device functions work well. Problem is with software. Once more Garmin released a device before fully and completely debugging software. I am experiencing issues with software related to suggested workouts and lost a ride to a faulty/corrupted save. Be aware that when using Express app with Apple laptops/computers (Macs), you can NO longer access hard drive of Edge 1050 (no mass storage access). Also be aware that size of computer is bigger but not the screen, is exactly same size as Edge 1030. This is the most expensive Edge that Garmin has released. I wanted to upgrade from my Edge 1030 as software was no longer fully compatible with my Instinct 2X Solar. I hope Garmin fixes software issues soon. Not sure if there are more as I have been using the computer for about 20 days so far. Computer aesthetics are very nice, touch screen works really well. Altitude (live) measurements are great now (too slow with past devices). Great screen visibility (easier to see outdoors). Many of the new features that were not available with Edge 1030 are really good to have (power guide, climbs, etc) and I like that I can set-up and see performance stats and other data similar to what I can use and see with Connect. Another good thing is that computer mount can now be replaced. In past models, if mount was damaged/broken you had to send to Garmin to get it refurbished. Overall its a good upgrade for me and trust that Garmin will fix current and new software issues, just wish they were debugged before product launch.

Amazing GPS

The colorful and clear directions is probably the best feature. I come from having an 830 which was awesome except that I would miss turns due to unclear some of the turns were displayed. This is so bright and vivid. Haven’t missed a turn yet.
The bell feature which was supposed to be the cherry on top, since I live in a densely populated area, is very low.
Being able to let people know the hazards on the road is a plus. I’ve used this extensively for potholes and flooding in my area.
It’s much faster at loading maps than my previous 830.
The credit card feature is not yet available with my bank, therefore I have not been able to take advantage of it yet.

Latest state of the art for bicycle navigation. I’m old and there is a bit of a learning curve but my 7 year old grandchild taught me how to use it.

Nice upgrade

I’ve had a Wahoo Roam since they came out but wanted to change to Garmin to be in the same family and app as my fenix. Used for road and gravel I’m liking the 1050 but it’s taking allot of tinkering to get the setup I want. Love the big easy to read screen in all light levels. One of the biggest advantages over wahoo is it doesn’t beep and pause because I’m climbing so slow it thinks I stopped.

Just like the Edge 840 Only Better..
on August 12, 2024

So why buy the 1050, when I already have the edge 840? Its the Bell Baby, well and a lot of other things. Getting older I appreciate the clarity in the display and the larger working area. Is it that much better than the 840? Yes it is.. The one caveat was when I transferred my sensors over. The Varia Radar needed to be removed and re-paired with the unit. Everything else paired up nicely first run time and even my training page layouts were transferred over.. Sweet..!!! FWIW: I've been a Garmin Edge user all the way back to the Edge 500 until it basically quit working. LOL. Hope the 1050 is as bombproof.
