Larger, brighter screen and full of features. Has all new features such as a speaker so spoken directions when using navigation. Electronic bell. Easier to share courses. Group ride tracking. Faster processor than previous models. Good for both beginner and expert riders. More and brighter pixels translates to less distraction trying to figure out the screen, and less distraction means less chance for an accident.
I purchased my Edge 1050 about 3 weeks ago. I’ve owned several Garmin Edge computers in the past and this is easily the best. I love the bright display and design. Battery life is really good. The music interface is one of my favorite features! Negatives for me include not find a way to sync my heart rate from my Apple Ultra Watch (I gave up and purchased a heart rate monitor strap I didn’t want), Strava segment set-up took too long to figure out and the unit is really expensive.
I bought a 1040 and sent it back because it didn’t have volume control and some other features so I sent it back and got the 1050. This really out performs my old 1030. I just wish there was a hands on class to show you how to use all the new features.
I bought this a few weeks ago. It has a very nice screen and I love the vibrant colors. I wouldn’t use this for racing, but it’s definitely a good choice for training and longer rides.
Coming from a 1030, turns on faster, loads faster, connects to sensors faster, tones for radar are better, has a amazing bike bell and bonus with DI2 you can set up one of the option buttons to ring bell instead of on the screen. and did I mention the screen? works smoother, much more like you smart phone and just looks so much better.
My first ride told me I made the right investment. The screen is beautiful and so easy to read, night and day between my 830 which was a challenge to read. I love the features, the bell, the climbing function, the light network, the training. Wifi updates are slick too. The battery only went down to 82% after a 1 1/2 hour ride. I look forward to more miles with it.
