Easy to figure out. Nice features. I like how you can have 4 screens at your fingertip while riding.

The best Garmin I’ve ever owned
on June 24, 2025

I’ve been a Garmin user for years. I started with the Edge 520, then moved to the 830 (used it for five years and absolutely loved it), but the 1050 is simply next level.
The large screen is phenomenal, especially for those of us over 40 who appreciate bigger numbers and better visibility. The high-resolution display makes everything crystal clear and easy to read on the move.
I really appreciate the new ability to report road hazards, which is a great feature for the cycling community.
The integration with the UT800 light and RTL515 radar is excellent — seamless and reliable, like a true safety ecosystem.
I was a bit concerned about the size and weight, but it’s surprisingly light. It reminds me of a blend between a modern high-end BlackBerry and those old-school Garmin Nuvi car GPS units from 20 years ago — in the best possible way.
From my days using Garmin in Colombia, now in the U.S., and soon in the U.K., I’ve always trusted Garmin. The ecosystem is solid — I also use the Index S2 scale and a Forerunner 45 (though I’ll admit the Forerunner is a bit underpowered for deeper data syncing in Garmin Connect — that web interface could definitely use a refresh, it’s feeling a bit outdated).
Overall: absolutely excellent. Best cycling computer I’ve used.

ONE MAJOR FLAW
on June 23, 2025

In terms of accuracy and data provided, this is an excellent bike computer. It's also easy to set-up and it's easy to move between the various data screens. There's one major flaw though, at least in my experience.
When I ride, I usually wear sunglasses. I wear prescription glasses with transition lenses (aka, photochromic lenses). As previously mentioned, the 1050 has one major flaw though: In some light conditions, the screen of the 1050 is almost impossible to read. This is especially the case when riding into the sun, i.e., when the sunlight is coming from the front of me. In the shade or in darker conditions, the screen is more legible and when riding in the dark, it is much better than any other computers I've had. Still, if you ride mainly in the daylight hours and you wear sunglasses when riding, I cannot recommend this computer to you.

Excellent New Features

I received the 1050 for a birthday gift. I can say I love it better than the 1040 that I had. I do ultra riding so the longer battery life is a plus. The navigation screen is so much easier to few when riding at night. It also very easy to set up and finding something on the device is so much easier. I have to admit, I love the bell (lol) Over all I give it a high rating.

upgrade garmin gps 1000 to 1050
on June 21, 2025

Just upgrade to the new Garmin bike gps 1050 and love it. Simple to use, clearer and brighter screen, simple prompts and great battery life. Hopefully get 10 years out of this one too. Surprised the screen (or useable screen) was not a bit bigger but zoom in and out is much quicker now, so not a big issue.

You won’t regret it!

Absolutely love the new Garmin 1050! The large screen and easy-to-read text make it super user-friendly, even in bright light. Battery life is solid—even without battery saver mode, it lasts a long time. The digital bell is hands-down my favorite feature—makes me feel like a kid again every time I use it!
Another big plus is how well it connects with Garmin Connect—you get daily training suggestions sent right to the device. You can even pair it with your Garmin watch for a fully connected training experience.
If you’re thinking about upgrading, stop thinking and go for it. You won’t regret it!

Overall Great Training Tool
on June 19, 2025

Pros:
- The screen and battery life are amazing!
- The unit is very responsive. (minus in the navigation map)
Cons/ Concerns:
- You don't see that the battery calls for 100% when charging, mine shows a maximum of 99%.
- Some voice commands sound distorted or like the speaker is damaged, and this is not at 100% volume.
- My device will not continue to download the topo map in sleep mode, as the unit claims to be able to do. So I had to leave the device for 5 hours ON to download the file.
- Navigation Map is slow and lags, even with most map features turned off.

Outstanding device!

Purchased this last month while on vacation, after forgetting my 1040 at home. What a step up in speed and ease of use. This device provides fast, accurate data and is highly responsive to use. Zero lag and integrates seamlessly with the collection of devices I already have. Wonderful upgrade!
