WARNING: These WILL SCRATCH SOME SURFACES

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 3M sent me a free sample package of Scotch-Brite Heavy Duty Scrub Sponges to review. They arrived today.
On the back of the package, in LARGE BLOCK LETTERS, it says "SAFE ON" and goes on to list these kitchen items: "POTS AND PANS," "NON-COATED COOKWARE" & "OVEN RACKS."
Unfortunately I did not read the fine print below that. Under "Use & Care" it reads "Do not use on stainless steel appliances. This product may scratch. Test first in an inconspicuous area and allow to dry to verify no surface damage."
I had a food spill in my microwave oven, which dried. I had pretty much, but not completely, already cleaned it up with paper towels. The area (in the interior of my microwave) was not well lit, but it still a little rough to the touch.
I decided to finish the cleanup with the "SCRUB DOTS" surface of the wet new sponge. I scrubbed the area but I continued to feel resistance, so I stopped scrubbing, dried the clean surface and shone a flashlight at the base surface of my microwave. Whatever the material is, it is deeply and randomly scratched.
There were also some stains on the shiny metal base of the microwave, which is hidden when the door is closed. I decided to carefully try to clean that area too, with the SCRUB DOTS surface of the new sponge. I very gently started to rub a very small part of that area, and it immediately started to get swirl scratches. I stopped immediately.
Do NOT leave these Scotch-Brite SCRUB DOTS HEAVY DUTY SCRUB SPONGES lying around the kitchen, unless you are willing to risk that someone who does not know that they are very abrasive will try to use one to clean surfaces that can easily be damaged. THEY ARE VERY ABRASIVE. Hopefully I have not ruined my microwave oven.

These are awesome on Stovetops, Pots & Pans, Sinks, Counters & anything else you need to scrub but aren't excessively abrasive.
