[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Publisher: Avalon Hill
Designed by: Bruce Glassco
Players: 3–6
Ages: 12+
Playtime: ~60 minutes
Review:
Betrayal at House on the Hill is a suspense-filled, semi-cooperative board game where players explore a haunted mansion that builds itself room by room. At some point, one of the players turns traitor, triggering a unique "haunt" scenario that shifts the game into a dramatic, story-driven showdown.
The 3rd edition brings:
Refreshed artwork and miniatures
Revised haunts for better balance and clarity
Streamlined rules, making it more accessible to new players
Pros:
Over 50 unique haunt scenarios = high replay value
Great storytelling and horror atmosphere
Surprises and plot twists keep everyone on their toes
Cons:
Balance can be hit or miss depending on the haunt
Not ideal for players who dislike hidden traitor mechanics.

Betrayal at House on the Hill isn’t perfect, but i

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you’re into spooky stories, surprise twists, and board games that don’t take themselves too seriously, Betrayal at House on the Hill is definitely worth checking out. It’s part haunted house exploration, part horror movie, and part "oh no, my friend just turned evil."
What’s the game like?
At the start, everyone’s working together to explore a creepy old mansion. You flip over room tiles to build the house as you go, collecting items and having weird, creepy things happen to you. Then—boom—someone triggers “the Haunt,” and suddenly the vibe totally changes. One player becomes the traitor (usually), and now it’s everyone else versus them in some kind of horror scenario. There are a ton of different stories that can happen, so the game feels fresh every time.
What’s fun about it:
-The game tells a cool little horror story every time you play.
-Tons of different possible scenarios keep things interesting.
-It’s super thematic and great for Halloween or game nights with friends.
-Pretty easy to learn, even if you’re not a hardcore board gamer.
What’s not so great:
-Some of the endings feel a bit unbalanced or random.
-The rules for the Haunt can get confusing at times.
-Depending on the version you have, some components (like the character boards) are a little flimsy.
Who will like it?
This game is great for groups who like storytelling, surprise twists, and don’t mind a bit of chaos. It’s especially fun with 4–5 players and works best when people really get into the theme. If you like horror movies, you’ll probably have a blast.
Final thoughts:
Some games end in hilarious disaster, some are super tense, and others are just plain weird—but that’s kind of the charm. Grab some snacks, dim the lights, and enjoy the chaos.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The game was fun. We played with 5 people total. Set up was easy. Instructions relatively easy. There was a mistake on the cards- Instructions say “strange dust “ the card says “a vial of dust”. The game odds well made so it will last quite awhile.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a wonderful game for entertainment on stay in nights with friends and family! Great for the value for money as there are 50 different scenarios to play with. Very high quality, I was surprised by the thickness of cards and figures provided. Durable to last a long time. Packaging itself is basic as it is for all games!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just played Betrayal at House on the Hill (3rd Edition) and it was such a fun ride. The game starts off cooperative as you explore this creepy old mansion together, uncovering rooms and strange events—and then suddenly, one of you becomes the traitor and everything flips. It felt super immersive and dramatic, like being dropped into a horror movie with your friends.
What I loved most was how every game is different because of the variety of “haunts” that can happen. The twist when the betrayal happens is honestly my favorite part. It’s chaotic in the best way. Also, this 3rd edition looks great and feels a bit more streamlined than the older one. Highly recommend if you like a mix of strategy, suspense, and a little bit of betrayal (in a fun way, of course).
