Seems to be real s35vn, a good blade steel, with a solid heat treat. Perfectly centered, no blade play & XR lock very easy to use once the springs breaks in. Needs work to get the action smooth, flipper tab is not great without some modification / gloves. Texturing on the scales are too thin + not very comfortable. OG clip is absolutely terrible, new improved clip is useable at least.

Great knife, the blade is straight when closed. The locking mechanism is positive and not too tight. The blade steel stays sharp evan after hard use and it’s not too difficult to sharpen. Highly recommend. G.

This knife is perfect if you ask me. I work construction. There is no real detent. The flipping action is achieved by the shape of the tang riding on the xr lock. And if you ask me it’s near perfect Much better then benchmades attempt of a flipper. Also. The metal flipper tab is kind of sharp. But if you’re a working man like me with rough hands, It’s perfect I have this and the d2 version In red. If you have baby hands get the d2 version. It’s a stonewashed finish so all the sharp edges are knocked down a lot. I love both these knives. They’re perfect for me. And I’m a collector and have many!!!

Unmatched Value for This Quality Knife

All the good things said are right on; next. The spring that functions the lock must be overcome to open the blade, keep your fingers off the lock when opening, add lube and break it in. It's a slightly different grip to open, but very satisfying. Next, I formed a small piece of black high-density foam to compress and fill the top of the pocket clip which keeps my Jean's pocket from getting caught. The foam sticks without adhesive, fills the area and works great. Knife Compares to $140.00 and US made knife. Small hack -Excellant value.

Liking this model

SOG did a lot of things right with this model:
- combining the XR lock's ease of use with the back flipper is a great feature and main reason I wanted to try out this knife: while the lock seems solid I like that the flipper tab doubles as finger guard when blade is deployed;
- the opening action with the flipper is quite decent, comparable to a quality liner lock;
- blade is well-designed - versatile and good-looking - and the cutting edge grind is excellent and relatively even, which compares favorably with other, more expensive knives in my collection;
- great choice of steel in S35VN, blade came shaving sharp and, if SOG has applied the same, highly regarded heat- and cryo-treatment to this blade as they have to their AUS8 blades, then this is something to also celebrate (I intend to report back on edge retention of this blade after longer-term usage if it falls short);
- blade centering within the handle is very good;
- knife has an attractive appearance and handle offers decent grip with the slot pattern and good ergonomics; and
- blade lock-up in the deployed position is very solid - no play in any direction.
However, there is room for improvement:
- jimping on both the flipper tab and the spine of the blade is too sharp, and if it continues to irritate I may have to apply sandpaper to it;
- blade is somewhat difficult to open using the thumb studs (hopefully this will become easier as the knife wears in); and
- while the pocket clip works well, the SOG bill-boarding on it kind of defeats the purpose of having a deep carry clip to the extent that people recognize the brand as a knifemaker.
All in all, this model (especially with the upgraded steel) deserves much success.

I'm not sure why every one is so critical of the clip. If you don't like it just mod it. I own everything form Chris Reeves to cheap Chinese knives and I will carry this over any of them. For the money there is not a better knife. Design, steel, lock up, design. I'm a former knife maker so I missed the clip for better performance. I agree that is there only issue with the knife but easy fix. Just buy it. My Benchmades, Spydercos, etc. All collecting dust....

Initially pretty happy, size and feel I'm happy with and it was super sharpe out of the box. After a week or 2 of minor use I noticed the blade near the tip had a couple chips in it. I hadn't used it much and definitely not on anything hard enough it would damage the blade.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
