Immediately Impressive

Sharpest knife I've had out of the box. It's a great balance between compact and comfortable, as it feels good in the hand and allows a full grip. Carries well and looks great, with a lot of attention to detail. Even the edge is rounded so it doesn't run your hand when you reach into your pocket. Good job SOG.

Love this knife - hate the clip that breaks.

This knife has a great feel and the blade stays sharp for daily carry. However, I bought this knife because of the low profile clip. Non of the knife sticks out of my pocket and I like that. I have hung this clip twice getting up out of a straight armed office chair - it sprung out and broke both times. I feel this is due to the name being cut out of the spring steel clip which leaves the clip very weak. I would love it if SOG would make the clip solid and laser engrave their logo rather than cut it through the spring steel. I am again having to order a replacement clip and not able to carry my knife until repaired. I would give 5 stars if the clip issue was corrected.

The last EDC you'll buy

This is my first premium SOG. As a career firefighter a good folder is essential. And this one is GREAT. Solid, low profile, and light enough to forget you have it...until you need it. All 3 opening actions are flawless. Great finish on the cryo S35VN. Carbon G10 handle is beautiful as well. Blade is razor sharp out of the box, and maintains a sharp edge. I liked this version so much I sprung for the terminus XR LTE as well - same blade and handle but insanely light. I use the LTE for my off duty EDC and the XR for my on duty carry. Aside from the weight difference, this heavier XR S35VN has a nice mechanical "click" on opening/lock that the XR LTE lacks because of its carbon liners. A click that I prefer while on duty. Always nice to hear its ready on a blind open. I was a little weary trying a SOG initially with its China steel, but I've been overly impressed with both knives performance and wish i had given them a shot earlier. You wont be disappointed.

Finally, a SOG that I can get behind!

Out of the gate, this is a great knife for the price. It’s not perfect but it’s really good.
Things I like: The look and feel of the carbon over G10 scales. I love the XR/Axis Lock. The lock allows for ambidextrous use and “flip-to-open/close” action. Once lubed and broken in, it flips opened easily (after you deal with the jimping on the flipper), the pocket clip is a good size and not too tight. The frame weight relief is nice, but it is still a bit heavy.
The things that I don’t like: The jimping on the flipper tab is deadly. It grates the fingerprints off and destroys the inside of your pocket. I have no idea why they did that. The action is so light that it really doesn’t need that kind of jimping, if any at all! As can be seen in the attached photo, I used a sharpening crock stick to file down the sharp tips and edges. Second, the thumb studs are a bit too close to the scales. 1mm gap would have been really welcome to get a good thump purchase. Overcoming the XR lock is harder than a normal detent and that lack of gap mean an occasional misfire for me if I don’t use some wrist flick.
Many complain about the SOG logo on the pocket clip, I don’t mind it. No worse that the Apple logo on my MacBook. Branding is branding and as long as it’s subtle and tasteful, it’s okay. Some of the old SOG stuff was a little too loud but the pocket clip is fine.
Overall, this is a great knife for the money. I can’t say buy it as your only knife but if you like to have more than one or ten knives in a collection/rotation, it’s a good buy and a fun fidget knife.
TIP: Here is a tip for you. When the knife is new, it’s a little stiff. To over come that, hold the knife in the position so you can flip it with your index finger while gently resting your thumb on one of the Axis...I mean XR lock switches. As you push/pull with your index finger, allow your thumb to grip and gently pull down on the lock (this is a natural grip/hold anyway). The XR lock acts as the detent so this light pull with the thumb reduces the “detent” force and allows the blade to swing opened really easily. After a while, once the blade loosens up, you will not need to do this.

Pretty Cool Overall

Just ordered one of these knives and I have a lot to say. I didn’t buy mine off of the SOG website because it’s never in stock but I got mine on BladeHQ and it’s super cool. This is my first knife that’s “quality”. Usually I get cheap Walmart knives but I decided to get this thing and I’m not disappointed in any way. Instantly can tell that this is a solid knife. The steel is tough and stays sharp. I see lots of reviews of people saying they’re hard to open and the serrations on the flipper are too aggressive but I found the opposite. The knife is easy to open with either hand and the serrations get a good grip when flipping the knife a lot. The carbon fiber is beautiful and this is a cool “gentleman’s knife”. Overall, very satisfied. Obviously this isn’t a $200 benchmade but it definitely hold up!

TERMINUS XR - S35VN

I enjoy the SOG Terminus XR S35VN knife. The flipper edge caused some problems with my finger because the metal had some sharp edges. Used a file to remove the metal burr. Three ways to open the blade which is extraordinary. Like the pocket clip which ambidextrous. It would be great to include a T6 Torx driver that could be used to change the pocket clip from the right to the left side. I am left handed and the button to close the blade is very easy to use. Like features of the pocket knife, Glad that the pocket clip was for deep pocket carry and narrow about 1/4-in at the top curved edge, The knife feels good in my hand, Great lock on the blade which was the main feature that caused me to purchase the knife.

Bugout contender, GOOD but not quite great

This version is the best value of all the Terminus XR variants. Love the blade and scale upgrades over the G10/D2 version, sharp out of the box, multiple deployments. ALL 3 variants of the Terminus XR come gritty and poor action out of the box, but smooth out after an hour of fidgeting with them. Carbon fiber is also sharp on several corners on both variants I got and should be smoothed/sanded down for a better experience. If you're used to other crossbar locks, this one is different with how the detent/XR lock works and pulls in/pushes out the blade since it has a flipper. Overall a good value for the offering

I had the Terminus XR with the softer metal and green g10 scales and I loved that knife. Lost it in the woods 😔 and bought this as a replacement. Handles just as well. Action is buttery smooth. Best of all the s35vn steel is so much better at cutting / edge retention. Absolutely worth the extra $40 in my opinion. Now that I've seen what all the hype is about I doubt I could ever go back. The G10 scales are a little unrefined with harsher edges then I would like but I imagine that's what keeps the price down. New favorite amongst my collection and this is certainly one of the cheaper ones I own. Another banger from SOG. 👍
