Impossible to Open

Love the fact it's razor sharp and comfortable in the hand, but it's impossible to open! I can't use the thumb studs or flipper tab. I have to manually open it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm not sure why every one is so critical of the clip. If you don't like it just mod it. I own everything form Chris Reeves to cheap Chinese knives and I will carry this over any of them. For the money there is not a better knife. Design, steel, lock up, design. I'm a former knife maker so I missed the clip for better performance. I agree that is there only issue with the knife but easy fix. Just buy it. My Benchmades, Spydercos, etc. All collecting dust....

Ultimately returned

Really wanted to keep this knife - had the green G10 w/upgraded steel. After cleaning and relubing this had amazing action. Ultimately I returned it because of an issue with the pocket clip that I just couldn't live with: because the top of the clip extends past the top of the scale, and the clip is inset into the scale, it causes the tops of pants pockets to get stuck in this little cavity between the inside of the clip loop and butt of the knife. Makes it impossible to remove without pulling the clip away from the handle. Fix this, or offer another clip option and I'll buy another in a heartbeat!
The only other issue of note was that unlike other similar locks, due to the design this knife relies more heavily on the user equally pulling back each slide lock (on both sides). This isn't as pronounced of an issue with other knives, but not a deal breaker.

Liking this model

SOG did a lot of things right with this model:
- combining the XR lock's ease of use with the back flipper is a great feature and main reason I wanted to try out this knife: while the lock seems solid I like that the flipper tab doubles as finger guard when blade is deployed;
- the opening action with the flipper is quite decent, comparable to a quality liner lock;
- blade is well-designed - versatile and good-looking - and the cutting edge grind is excellent and relatively even, which compares favorably with other, more expensive knives in my collection;
- great choice of steel in S35VN, blade came shaving sharp and, if SOG has applied the same, highly regarded heat- and cryo-treatment to this blade as they have to their AUS8 blades, then this is something to also celebrate (I intend to report back on edge retention of this blade after longer-term usage if it falls short);
- blade centering within the handle is very good;
- knife has an attractive appearance and handle offers decent grip with the slot pattern and good ergonomics; and
- blade lock-up in the deployed position is very solid - no play in any direction.
However, there is room for improvement:
- jimping on both the flipper tab and the spine of the blade is too sharp, and if it continues to irritate I may have to apply sandpaper to it;
- blade is somewhat difficult to open using the thumb studs (hopefully this will become easier as the knife wears in); and
- while the pocket clip works well, the SOG bill-boarding on it kind of defeats the purpose of having a deep carry clip to the extent that people recognize the brand as a knifemaker.
All in all, this model (especially with the upgraded steel) deserves much success.

Good but could be better

So glad SOG upgraded the steel to S35VN. The knife came very sharp. My knife was difficult to open and much more difficult than the Terminus XR Black that I bought as well. I added some lubricant and I hope this improves. If it was as good as the Terminus XR Black then it would be the perfect EDC knife. The handle scales are nice and don't tear up my pockets. My only complaint is the opening of the knife and the pocket clip. I like the deep carry, but I have SOG on the knife blade both sides. I don't need SOG on the clip as well. For EDC I would like my knife to remain anonymous and not draw attention the SOG clip certainly doesn't help with that. If you want to take over the EDC market fix the opening during quality control, hollow out the clip and make it less noticeable, and offer black blades in multiple handle scale colors and SOG will rise to the top.

Nearly impossible to open, bad quality control

Nice looks nice but extremely bad quality control. I have over 30 folders from cold steel to Benchmade to Zt. This is my 2nd Sog folder with the first sog being the cash card credit card folder which was great!
Saw some great review online and YouTube about the Terminus Xr. This one is nearly impossible to open, They should not be sending these out like this not sure if it’s a bad batch or what.
I’ll try to see if I can break it in over the next few days but from what I have right right now it’s the worst folder I have as this thing is near impossible to open!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
