been using this knife for about a month or so. Nice hand feel. Took few days to get smooth action out of the flipper, but now no complaints. Only thing that would make this knife even better would have been a lanyard hole. Otherwise, I really like the knife.

I bought this for the steel quality, knowing nothing about the xr lock. It's ok, but I prefer a spring assist. The xr lock is secure, but I also like the leaf or frame lock.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent look and feel, mod for perfection

I like what SOG did with the lock. Improved upon the axis design by making it easier to engage the mechanism. The carbon fiber G-10 combo along with the slit design make for a gorgeous, grippy, and unique style. The shape of the blade with the S35VN steel are outstanding.
When I first tried the action I was not pleased with the flipper, thumbstud options. However, I took a look at Nick Shabazz's YouTube video on how to take her apart and found that by tweaking the omega springs, I was able to attain a perfect triad of opening actions.
I will probably also take some sandpaper to the flipper.
So, what started out as a "2" from the factory turned out to be a "5" with some adjustments. In fact, I now ordered the crimson D2 version.
I hope that SOG considers QI on the springs so that they are consistently tweaked with less tension. Also, they should consider the use of titanium for the Omega springs which would, of course, be more durable and not rust - market that over Benchmade's axis lock.

This knife is perfect if you ask me. I work construction. There is no real detent. The flipping action is achieved by the shape of the tang riding on the xr lock. And if you ask me it’s near perfect Much better then benchmades attempt of a flipper. Also. The metal flipper tab is kind of sharp. But if you’re a working man like me with rough hands, It’s perfect I have this and the d2 version In red. If you have baby hands get the d2 version. It’s a stonewashed finish so all the sharp edges are knocked down a lot. I love both these knives. They’re perfect for me. And I’m a collector and have many!!!

Steel is great, Clip is way to short constantly falls out of pocket finally lost last weekend. Not sure if I will replace.

All the good things said are right on; next. The spring that functions the lock must be overcome to open the blade, keep your fingers off the lock when opening, add lube and break it in. It's a slightly different grip to open, but very satisfying. Next, I formed a small piece of black high-density foam to compress and fill the top of the pocket clip which keeps my Jean's pocket from getting caught. The foam sticks without adhesive, fills the area and works great. Knife Compares to
