My only problem with this product is that it uses up the butane cartridges quicker than I expected. I turn it on and wait 10 seconds and then ignite it and get that whoosh sound letting me know it's lit. I set it aside and check it 5 minutes later and have to ignite it again because it's not even warm yet. I push the igniter again and get another whoosh sound. This time it is lit. Waste alot of butane this way. Has happened more than once
I bought this unit at Sportsman's Warehouse just prior to a camping trip since I saw it was highly rated. I inserted the butane cartridge, slid in the repellent insert, gave it a few seconds, and clicked the start button 5-10 times. It lit up and I verified that the flame was consistently on. Everything worked the way it was supposed to (I could occasionally see the vapors burning off the repellent insert, and it slowly changed from blue to white). I initially had the unit sitting right beside me on the armrest of my camp chair, but I was getting bit on my legs. So, I decided to place the unit directly on the ground - next to my feet. When I did that, I got bit on my arms. For me, personally, it seems that this unit is only good for about 2 feet - maximum. I would ideally have one on the ground by each foot and one on each armrest. However, at about $25 each, I don't think I'll be buying four of them. I'm disappointed since one is advertised to handle a 15 foot area.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this sprayer today to take to the lake with me fishing had it running for over an hour before the mosquitoes came out and the mosquitoes still swarmed both my husband and I just as much as without this thing running in fact I had some mosquitoes swarming around mosquito repeller itself....WASTE of money!

I have hade mine for about a year now and my dad's has j have his for about 2.5 years. I take this every were outdoors. Wether that be hiking, fishing, or hunting, it dose it's job. It dose take a minute or so to clear out an area of mosquitoes, buti turn it off one they clear out and the "shield of protection"will stay around for 10min on a normal calm wind day. The only down side is that it is more expensive than regular mosquito spray and dosn't work instantly. But, it dose every bit as it is intended to. Also, the "refills" could be a little bit cheaper, but you can find them on sale at Walmart.
I have three now use around my motor home , work well 1 mr 150 and 2 ea mr300 have had the 150 about year and never failed oUt of all three Ran 240 hours on 150 and 12 hours on new mr300. This was a bad year for bugs
I have 4 of these units. I kept replacing them when they stopped working because Thermacell told me I could send the unit for repair but would need to pay postage. Weighing this with the cost of just purchasing a new unit, I just opted for buying a replacement. After the third unit stopped working (all over one summer and used only in my yard while gardening) I thought it would be worth while to go ahead and send them all back at once for repair. The units were returned to me with a letter from the repair team telling me they replaced the regulator on two units and completely replaced the third unit with a new one. That letter is dated October 24 2019. With gardening season almost over, I retired them for the winter and got them out recently when the mosquitoes showed up around the end of May. June is coming to a close and I am sitting here looking at four defective units as I scratch my bites. I can feel a little warmth from three but they do not generate enough heat to cause a pad to change any color at all and not enough for there to be any glow showing in the plastic window. If I take them into my dark garage and get lucky a speck of light may be present but it is fleeting and not enough to do more then warm the unit before going completely cold and certainly not enough to cause a pad to have any color change at all. All of the units were used with the utmost care by only myself, a little old lady gardener. If you are going on a one or two week excursion in need of protection these units are the answer to your mosquito problems but if you are looking for seasonal relief these portable units may not be the best solution. The real answer to the question following this review asking if I would recommend this product would be it depends on how long they need to put it in service. But Thermacell only gives two options yes or no.
