These photos are on day two of use after purchasing (three days ago) I knew having a longer bit on it would require longer cool downs but within the first four holes drilled intermittently the hammer portion stopped working. Figuring we maybe overheating it by the grease could have caused the failure but for it stating it can handle a 1” bit I thought I bought the right tool for the job. I am a dewalt fan but this one seems to fall short as this is the second one that’s has failed me on this job. After years of cement work and having one that has grease areas, it surprised me to not find it in the maintenance section of the manual. Which I read beforehand. Now that grease is exiting the knob I can only think to send it in for servicing or return it. Note the drill bit is 3/4” as even I didn’t want to over work it. While it was working it was the best working SDS drill I’ve ever used, but I am very disappointed in its durability ( I returned the first one to the store as I didn’t have time to get it serviced) now I am using another to finish the job as even this one only managed a few holes with rest.
I've found this hammer drill to be alot more useful than I would've thought. I would recommend at least a 5ah battery and not to drill holes over 1/2" though. other than that, this product is pricy to be honest but still cheaper than the alternative for concrete work.
I use it mainly for drilling into concrete slabs for anchors and some light chipping/hammering. A lot of this work is done underneath a slab house in a muddy tunnel repairing/replacing drain lines. Battery life is decent with a 5 or 6 ah battery.
It did a great job while I had it but unfortunately it was stolen along with all my other dewalt tools. I never got the old one back so I bought another.
The roto-hammer worked as well as corded units that I normally use. I was not expecting it to perform so well. I figured that I would need the 60V model to get this much performance. I would highly recommend this product for occasional light and medium use.
I was going to rent a power hole digger (jack hammer) yesterday because it took me over an hour to get one hole bug using a hand post hole hole digger, chisels, and digging by hand. I had 10 holes total to do! In Texas we have cliche and rock. I purchased this tool and was able to dig a hole in 3 min, I love Dewalt tools! It is all I purchase!
Our company tool room was always lacking the mid sized corded rotary hammers, since the remodeling crew foreman knew how invaluable they were to keep hidden in their trailers available for planned and unplanned applications of tapcons, gripcons, concrete anchor bolts, removing concrete or mortar for pipe/wire access, mortar removal for tuck pointing repairs, basement window. concrete casing removal, etc. Decided to stop wasting time finding no tool at the shop or having to visit a fellow jobsite to borrow a company tool, and bought my own cordless 20v XR SD plus Hammer drill to always have one when I needed one without sharing. It's perfect for these quick jobs, and saves time not running a cord on our jobsite that all our other mobile tools are cordless. At larger jobsite, the corded DeWalt rotary hammers stay in the trailer due to the convenience to go instantly to any spot on the jobsite with no loss of power. Even my Makita coworkers tackle their quick tasks on my jobs, without attempting any tool jokes...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used Dewalt tools for 24 years in my A/V business. They all are great and I love every single one I and my crew use, every day. Dewalt is an American owned company always at the forefront of tools. For concrete or masonry, THIS is the drill you need to use. Toss all other ones away. If you want holes in concrete, brick, etc., this drill is like a hot knife through butter compared to all other drills. If you are using Tapcon bits, especially on brick, then use your standard general purpose drill with hammer drill capability. This one is so powerful, brick will explode in your face with chips flying off while you drill and actually makes the holes too big for Tapcon bits to grab. Use this drill when you need a hole through a wall, and want it quick. Hang on, pull the trigger, and watch it work wonders. The engineering and design of how this drill works amazes me. My hats off to Dewalt. It's like no drill I have every used before. Like kids, my guys and customers pause to watch this drill work wonders on concrete every time we pull it out of the case. Unlike the standard general purpose hammer drills that require ear muffs and will deafen you, this baby is fairly quiet. The battery system is well thought out, but that's for another review one day. You will not be disappointed in this drill. Just glad a stranger watching me work one day recommended trying his drill like this one.
