Canon you did it again. At last a camera that does it all for the most part and then some specialty stuff. I am impressed by it intuitiveness. You even publish a manual that gets me shooting within 5-10 minutes of opening the box. I’m one that likes to get creative with my pictures and it allows me to do that and then I if choose I can let the camera do the work for me. I can hardly wait play with the camera underwater! Thanks for an awesome product.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: add a small memory card

Nice small everyday camera

This is my second G12 because the first one was dropped when the lens was open and had no cap over it to protect it. The lens was chipped when it hit a rock. Even so the camera still took many good shots. The problem was that macros were hard to focus and when the light hit the chipped lens there were glaring spots in my photos. My new G12 has a cover when not shooting and is my most used camera for day to day shooting. It often takes better macro shots than my bigger cameras. My only disappointment is the delay between shots.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: delay between shots

I like the excellent still image quality. But it's video function is too poor, too poor. How can you shoot the video without the zoom and auto focus function???
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, easy to use
Cons: poor poor video!

Mediocre at best

Owners manual leave much to be desired - lacks the detail to be informative/instructional Flash, when in the auto mode functions 100% of the time regardless of lighting conditions or ISO setting LCD is excellent and provides more than adequate information for the photographer - Viewfinder provides no information including focus, aperture or speed data - for this information you must use the LCD Over priced for what you get - Canon produces better backup/supplemental/pocket cameras at a much cheaper price.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Bright LCD
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu, poor manual

The G12 is a good camera. However, I found it quite difficult to use (multiple settings) and the five zoom was not enough for me. I stuck with Canon, though - just got the new Rebel T3i and am in the process of acquiring lenses!
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD
Cons: Difficult to use, Heavy/Bulky, Complicated controls/menu

Best Camera almost perfect

I think this is the best of the best and could be a little better. The cons list are not a deal buster but really could be the final touches to a camera that just works. I shoot an extreme amount of ECU shots of products for our CGI department and this is my camera of choice.
For hand held shots my biggest problem is holding the camera. Without the bump on the front that you fingers wrap around (see the A630) it is easy to drop or else the base of your thumb hits the menu button. This seems to happen at the worst time when under a car in an odd position. Like I said not a deal buster but an aggravation when you are in a hurry.
For table tops or light table shots the door on the bottom of the camera requires removal from tripod when changing batteries or removing CF card. After setting up a shot on an extention arm this can be a real hassle and can require resetting up shot. Ugh -- an art director can spot a lighting shift and this can be a cause for a reshoot. Once a shot is set you should be able to just pop of the disk fro review.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: no wrist strap, ease of holding, battery door on bottom, cf slot on bottom, menu button location

Another Winner!

I bought my G12 for its features - primarily an adjustable LCD screen and an optical viewfinder in a small size - which were indispensable on my earlier A630. Image stabilization, 10 megapixels and a high quality LCD screen are bonuses on an already fantastic camera. I'm sure I'll never use all of its features but it's exactly what I need for portability and ease of use. I have had it two months and am completely satisfied.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use, optical viewfinder, adjustable lcd screen

Continuous Drive so slow it hurts
on July 1, 2011

Great for low light and landscapes and I love the ability to set everything manually in a pocket camera, but... The continuous drive is sooo slow, this camera is totally worthless for anything that moves. This camera makes me nuts on a daily basis for this reason. Such a shame - would really be a great little camera otherwise.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance
Cons: Missing features/settings
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
