My favorite Canon Camera Yet

I have been searching for an amazing quality camera that can zoom and focus without blurring the images. I also wanted a camera that does not blur the image when taken without flash. Moreover, I was looking for a smart camera that can adjust to the scenes without having me fiddle around with many settings. This camera has it all. The sharpness of the images and the clarity is so amazing, that I find myself looking at the photos I took over and over and over again in amazement. Finally the icing on the cake, I can take this camera with me underwater when I dive --> an AWESOME camera and I can take it underwater (my wish definitely came true here). I have used underwater cameras before, but rarely do I get the images I want while diving, either the lighting is not right, or my hand can't stand still due to current or something. Once I place this camera in the underwater case, I cannot wait to see how the pictures come out.. I am very excited. Once again, Canon has done it again. In my Opinion, Canon is one of the best camera manufacturers out there.
Pros: excellent image quality, easy to use

Good, Solid Camera

I purchased that camera so that I would need need to pack an SLR. It has proven to be a durable camera and takes excellent pictures in the auto modes (for when I do not want to fiddle with controls). It also has an incredible number of adjustments for manual shooting.
One feature That I particularly wanted, and will not buy a camera without, is the manual viewfinder. It would be nice if Canon were to find a way to superimpose come data on the viewfinder window. However, it is made of clear glass and, otherwise, works as I want a viewfinder to.
I would also like t see faster response when the photo button is pressed. There seems to be a slight delay. It is possible that I am just comparing it to SLRs'; but, it lacks a "quickness."
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, durable, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu, no printed manual

Tradeoffs between G Models
on June 14, 2012

I had the opportunity to own and get good service life out of a G10 and was obviously impressed enough to re-up and buy a G12. The only problem I had with the G10, is it sucked in dust that attracted to the uncleanable, inside of the lense. This ended up ruining the camera in my opinion.
So far I've gotten good service out of my G12. My only disappointments in moving to the G12, are:
1. the plastic body vs the metal body of the G10. My job requires a durable camera with the multi functions that the G series offers (preventing me from going to a bombproof/waterproof/dustproof type camera).
2. the option to create a new folder, adding future photos to the new folder was removed, thus preventing me from resetting the numbering when I move from job to job during one day.
3. I'm not convinced the dust "sucking" problem has been resolved and this will end up with dust on the inside of the lense.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, flip screen
Cons: Missing features/settings, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

People, just look around you: We live in a new world of one-handed cell phone "photographers. Gee, if *that's* all you care about capturing images ... NO camera will work for you.
Hold the G12 steady for mind-boggling pictures! In fact, since this camera has that spectacular "HDR" setting, one MUST hold it rock-steady so it can capture 3 +/-/spot-on images, over-lay them and display. do it and you ... will ... not ... believe ... your ... eyes!
The remarkable Canon PowerShot G12: The compact, non-removeable lens EOS camera.
Best non-dSLR images I've ever taken with a digital camera have come from THIS spectacular little jewel!!!!
Impossible to recommend it highly enough!!!!
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Fantastic Image Quality

I'm a first time "G" series owner and have to say I was pretty much blown away with the outcome of the Images once they were downloaded on the computer screen. For a compact camera that produces SLR like quality photos, this was a great purchase. Love the fisheye, HDR and other scene effects. But most importantly, it is great that you are able to attach a remote shutter release and off of tripod get tack sharp images. There are a couple of things that I thought it should have came with are "printed manual", which is on the CD as PDF and a "hot shoe cover" which actually if inserted the camera flash will not fire, and also wish you could add a filter infront to protect the lens. Otherwise a fantastic camera and a great purchase. I do recommend this camera as a back up in the SLR case and for anyone who would like to learn photography, such as students.
Pros: image quality, hd video, add remote shutter release
Cons: no printed manual, no hot shoe cover

Love the camera!
Only complains after taking 3800 pictures since September are:
The curvature of the filter adapter partially obstructs the view finder.
Also, my tripod attachment is blocked by the filter attachment.
Pros: love the camera, controls very easy to access
Cons: filter adapter

just finished trip to italy-around 2000 photos later, didn't want to take bulky slrs, this canon filled the bill-something of great quality and stll able to keep all the time in my pocketwhat more could you ask for? great no flash capability just overall great camera-hope it survives as well as my ae-1 have had it since 1970.Only shortcoming i could fine was some sort of cover is needed for controls on right side-asa 1 handed shooter heel of hand kept hitting everything on that side had to change menu items frequently could use a cover or some kind of lockout
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: need control lockout on back
