the device is very slow and the USB C not compatible with MAC
Response from Western DigitalBy SM OLSJune 28, 2022
Hello,

We regret to learn that your My Book Duo Hard Drive is not performing as expected. Slow performance can be caused due to several factors like computer configuration, multiple applications running on the computer while trying to access or backup the data, fragmented disk which may also result in slow computer disk read capability, the total amount of data on a disk and the relative size of each file, encrypted backup or scanning of each file by anti-virus installed in the computer or USB port of the computer with which the drive is connected etc.

Stopping applications and software that use CPU and memory, keeping all the files in a single directory instead spreading them in multiple directories, connecting the drive directly to the USB 3.0 port of the computer and avoiding the USB hub while using the drive, etc. are the recommended steps to enhance the performance of the drive.

As a troubleshooting step, please ensure that the Hard Drive is connected directly on the USB 3.0 port of the computer and the files which you are attempting to copy are not in use by any other program of the computer.

Furthermore, you can also refer to the link suggested below and check for the Theoretical USB Interface Speeds to find out the theoretical speed given by different USB port types.

the best direct attached storage opotion.
on February 10, 2024

this is a good product. you must be-careful not to unplug this unexpectedly or you will get the orange flashing light. there are a few ways to fix this issue. one way is to power it off and unplug the unit. pull out one of the hard drives. replace it with an empty hard drive. then hook it back up and turn it back on. the unit should be flashing orange again but this time you can use your software to rebuild the raid array.
a second way i was able to fix this unit was after powering off the unit. unhook the unit. swap the 2 hard disk drives around so the drive in the first slot is now in the second slot. put the unit back together and turn on the orange light will be flashing. the software should tell you it needs to rebuild the raid array this .your data is accessible at this time but it will show you it is rebuilding the array. for either option wehen the array is finished rebuilding the unit will now have the white light and will be back to normal. you will not loose any data. i prefer option 1. if you are storing files that you just cant afford to loose then buy an extra matching hard disk drive you will thank mea latter it will be worth the money. this is the best option for a direct attached storage that i have found.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is an exceptional external drive, quick and reliable. I use this for all my storage instead of buying more drive space from Apple. This is affordable and easy to hook up.
I would recommend this to a friend!
