I got really tired of the large antenna and all the static of CB switching over and having such a small sleek antenna and still crystal clear comms is incredible!

I have been using the Midland MXT115 radio with the supplied magnetic antenna for the past year and have been really enjoying how clean and clear the transmissions have been even in the FRS channels. Once I decided how I was going to mount the radio in my truck ( Lexus GX470 ) I knew i would have to hard mount the antenna. I went with the universal lip mount and the Ghost 3db antenna to try to keep both the profile down and get a boost in range... it has worked out great in both respects!! The low profile of the Ghost doesn't scream look at me and the extra bit of range seems to be working out great and no issues hearing anyone on the trail in our group nor on the road when we are driving in a group convoy.
Now for the normal stuff... shipping time was quick especially in the Covid time... product was in great condition and no damages as well as fitting perfectly.
I recommend the GRMS radios to anyone who asks and the Midland by brand. The product is just as advertised and it just works.

Could not get standing wave ratio below 2 to 1 on channel 17
Response from midlandusa.comBy Customer Support October 28, 2021
Cable length and mounting can effect the SWR, adjusting how it is mounted or getting a shorter cable will get you to a preferred SWR. With that said, even at the 2.0, or 2.1 SWR performs very well. There are antenna comparison tests on Youtube by unbiased parties to show performance.

MXTA25 Antenna

This antenna is much smaller than the longer 6db gain that I have been using and so far, I see no difference in its performance. It is very easy to switch back and forth between the two since all I have to do is unscrew one and screw the other on the same mount.

Love this little stubby for my MXT275. Works great on the Knoxville area repeaters and looks cool too.

This is 5/8 and needs a ground plane to work

This is not 1/2 wave which means it needs a proper metal ground plane to work well. It is 5/8 wave length. At that wave length and at 462 mhz you need at least a 12-14 inch metal ground plane for proper distance. Distance will be greatly reduced if mounted on anything other than a good metal surface like a roof. Keep in mind that any metal surface less than 12 inches around 360 degrees will skew the wavelength away from the direction of less metal. Think of the pattern as a donut shape. Good metal surface whole donut. Less metal surface means you took a bite out of that donut.

All of our antennas are ground plane antennas. However, even no ground plane antenna designs sacrifice gain by not having a ground plane.

All Midland GMRS antennas require a ground plane for best performance.

In general the minimum amount of ground plane is considered to be ¼ wavelength in radius, about a 6 inch radius at 462 MHz. A larger ground plane will improve performance.

The consequence of not enough ground plane is less gain than advertised, and depending on the antenna design, a less than optimal impedance match.

I bought this to replace my old Midland antenna. The old one worked ok, but at highway speeds it made a very high pitch whistle and had to be removed every time I wanted to wash the truck... annoying. Not anymore, now that I purchased this MXTA25 3dB Gain Ghost antenna life is good. My MXT400 radio was professionally installed and the NMO mount drilled through the roof which made the swap easy... simply unscrew old and put this one on. VERY pleased. I highly recommend! Keep up the good work MIdland.

I bought this antenna and low profile cable so I could mount it on my Leitner rack and still have clearance from the garage door. The range we have tested it so far in northwest montana is about 14 miles from truck to truck, I was down town and other vehicle was south of location. Sound quality was amazing. Now my wife wants one in her truck! Thanks for making a great antenna midland!
