Using the 4TB Elements Desktop in a RPI DVR system

This drive has been working flawlessly for me, full time, for a couple of months now as a dedicated drive supporting my Raspberry Pi DVR system. Besides its reliability it is very quiet! Very happy with this purchase.

LINKS TO USERS MANUAL from Desktop Icon (WD Discovery) does not work! When clicking the USER MANUAL under RESOURCES it does not take you to a manual it takes you to your PRIVACY STATEMENT! A search of manuals on your site does not reveal a manual available after going through 22 pages!

disappointing amount storage

Well, thinking I was getting 8Tb of storage, as stated in the specs, it actually is 72 Tb, which is 10% less. I think and feel we are getting wrongly informed and that that is a shame
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Please know that while dealing with Windows and Mac based systems, you will commonly see both decimal measurements and binary measurements of a drive's capacity. In either case, a drive's capacity is measured by using the total number of bytes available on the drive. As long as the drive displays the correct number of bytes (approximate), you are getting the drive's full capacity. Please follow the below link to know more:

Works noisily and in a few seconds a scraping sound is heard also it is quite slow everything is squeaky plastic does not look at all reliable!!!

Hard drives produce some noise when they work. The amount and kind of noise depend on what the hard drive is doing like reading or writing data. It's good to know which sounds are normal and which might mean there's a problem with the hard drive.

Please be informed that slow performance can be caused due to several factors like computer configuration, multiple applications running on the computer while trying to access or backup the data, fragmented disk which may also result in slow computer disk read capability, the total amount of data on a disk and the relative size of each file, encrypted backup or scanning of each file by anti-virus installed in the computer or USB port of the computer with which the drive is connected etc.
Stopping applications and software that use CPU and memory, keeping all the files in a single directory instead spreading them in multiple directories, connecting the drive directly to the USB 3.0 port of the computer and avoiding the USB hub while using the drive, etc. are the recommended steps to enhance the performance of the drive.
As a troubleshooting step, please ensure that the Hard Drive is connected directly on the USB 3.0 port of the computer and the files which you are attempting to copy are not in use by any other program of the computer.
Furthermore, you can also refer to the link suggested below and check for the Theoretical USB Interface Speeds to find out the theoretical speed given by different USB port types.

Cheap, huge storage, works great!

After 4 years of storing games I still have space after 150 games and it works great! if there is an issue a quick restart fixes her right up(which probably has only happened 4-6 times)! Plus it’s nowhere near as much money as most company’s have for significantly little space in comparison. One things for sure when I max my storage out I’m getting another on from here!

I bought a WD Elements 10TB HDD. Plug-in and it works without any problem. However, from the 10TB, only 9.1TB are usable. Where is the rest?
