I am a huge fan of the UCS product line and have been buying them since the B-Wing. This is the first purchase that I would consider a major disappointment. There are parts of this set that I truly love, but they don’t outweigh the negatives. The biggest negative is the awful engineering job done on the movement of the S Foils. It is very loose and gets stuck frequently. There is no stop point and if you twist too far, the mechanism gets stuck. It also relies on rubber bands to hold the wings together. They are nowhere near strong enough to accomplish the task. The 2013 model had much better engineering on the S Foils using spring loaded pistons and a smooth deployment mechanism. This set seems like a cash grab since the last model was 10 years old. If they had better design, this could have been a great set and worth the money. As is, it is a failure.
Pros:
New body and nose shape look much better.
Back of model looks amazing.
Cockpit is a major upgrade.
Negatives:
Awful design for S Foil mechanism.
MAJOR wing sag.
Large gaps between body and wings.
Scale of large engines to short winds is comical.
Scale of R2-D2 is absurdly small.
Set is extremely fragile and parts constantly fall off.

I am very disappointed that Lego decided to release a 3rd UCS version of the X-Wing instead of doing a new model and decided to release one with this many glaring design flaws. This is the ONLY UCS model that Lego has released that I would not recommend purchasing.

This is my favorite UCS set since the UCS Star Destroyer. great build, looks fantastic. My only complaint would be R2. They should have used the same piece from the 2010 Obi Wan Starfighter set.

I understand some people may have differing views on this and other sets. But in my eyes, if you like something go for it. I loved this set from the announcement, and still do. Looks great on display and I enjoyed the build.
Only gripe I have is when the wings are in the flat position, if you are holding the model the wings tend to “sag” creating a space between them

Good for size and experience

Very good but many components like the stand are out dated and flimsy. The panels are very high in detail but fall off easily. Biggest problem is how the tip of the xwing is white instead of gray(Its litteraly gray in the preview photos in the booklet), and also how they edited the mold mark off the plaque.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Solid Collector's Piece - Below Average Build

As a collector's piece it's great. It's the freaking X-Wing! And its the most detailed one that LEGO has ever put out. As something to put on your shelf to look at and show off, its fantastic.
That being said, it wasn't fun to build because it's incredibly repetitive (the 4 wings are nearly identical). Also the wing mechanism is flimsy at best. This is not a set you want to play with. It's for looking at.

For me, this set could’ve easily been a five but there were 2 exceptions.
I’ll start off by saying I own the last UCS X-wing and I really enjoyed the improvements and the change in design. It looks amazing as a display piece. The build was a bit tricky on a few steps but overall it was not that challenging. I have definitely built much more difficult sets. I LOVE THE NEWLY PRINTED UCS PLAQUE! Wish they started doing this years ago. Great addition.
Where this set falls short of the 5 rating is the R2-D2 size and the cockpit windshield being loose/unprotected in the box.
The R2 minifig doesn’t look terrible in his droid compartment but it would’ve looked significantly better if there was a larger fig or a printed dome used as his head to represent a more accurate sized droid.
The cockpit windshield…. This has been an issue for me with several sets over the years. It’s loose in box and leaves a lot of room for damage scuffing. Unfortunately I ordered my set online so it had to travel a long ways. I believe this caused some of the damage. There are several scuffs/scratches all over the clear parts of the piece as well as one rather unsightly scratch to the printing.

Such a let down

The first thing I see when I open this set is a loose windscreen. The windscreen was unfortunately super damaged and bent. Cockpit pieces need to be protected lego!! Secondly the build wasn’t enjoyable at all, it felt like I was building a x wing from 10 years ago. The nose of the ship is inaccurate with the color and size being wrong. There’s also tons of gaps in the model. Besides the fact of the model being inaccurate, I’m more displeased with the quality control. Please Do better Lego!

Stop crying

This set is EXACTLY what it's made to be. Stop your crying about the price. People want legit reviews, not someone crying. Don't like it? Don't buy it! The set is fine. I enjoyed building it and it sits right next to my xwing micro, xwing polybag, and xwing play size. It's exactly what they wanted it to be. Go buy knockoff bricks and build your own MOC'S!
