Amazing.

Great Model. I got in to Lego after the last UCS X-Wing was retired. I so wanted one, but I didn’t want to spend the extra money purchasing it on the secondary market. I was overjoyed when this new, updated X-wing was announced. I built it as soon as I received it. No complaints.

So cool, but very challenging build!

The design could use some serious finesse. The side panels connect to the fuselage at two connection points, and the two long horizontal pieces of the panel are connected at two hinged connection points. Attaching the panels to the body is a real balancing act of applying just enough pressure at the correct angle to connect the side panels to the body, but not applying so much pressure that the two connection points of the two pieces of the panel are displaced, while also not putting pressure on the panel on the opposite side of the fuselage or any of the panels on the rear of the body (which are also connected by only one or two hinged connection points). Finally succeeded in this endeavor by applying downward pressure at the cockpit and attaching the side pieces of the nose after attaching each side panel to the body. The process was a bit frustrating, but overall worth it! The finished piece is really stunning!

If you’re going to keep doing the same ships or ideas, the next needs to continue to be better than the last. This is not. The Red 5 is still the king. This was the first UCS build I’ve had fall apart and have to open the instructions back up. The side panels, the engines, etc. and I can’t even get the cockpit to sit flush because it was just thrown in the box with no protection and got warped. When it’s finally complete it looks great minus the oversized nose piece. All that said, if the put another x-wing model out next week I would still buy it.

Amazing Value, Incredible model

I was one of the many fans that thought the set looked a bit odd on the box, but after receiving and building the model and seeing it with my own eyes, it blows the other UCS X-Wings out of the park.

I absolutely love this set. I wasn't so into the hobby when either of the previous 2 versions were released, so getting this opportunity to add one of the most iconic and recognizable ships from all of Star Wars was a no brainer to me. I do not understand why so many people are saying the model is fragile and that the side panels are difficult to keep in place. It is not fragile, and I had no problems building this set whatsoever. If you have those issues, then I dare say you're building it incorrectly. My included cockpit canopy had several noticeable scratches, so I'll need to replace that, but thats about the only bad thing I have to say about this set. R2 doesn't feel like he belongs in the ship given its scale. I'm also concerned about how the rubber bands inside will hold up over time. As a whole,, it's still amazing and I'm so happy to have one on my shelf.. Bottom line, if you don't have an X Wing already, you won't be unhappy with this one!

Disappointing

What an absolute disappointment. I have nearly all the UCS sets as well as dozens of others. This is the first set I've ever wanted to return... The side panels are nearly impossible to keep on. Not sure how this made it through quality control.

Printed plaque & cockpit
on May 7, 2023

The quality of Ucs sets have come a long way over years. This set contains an exclusive Luke, R2-D2 with back printing, a printed cockpit, and the first printed plague. It only contains 4 stickers compared to the 20 of the 2013 Red Five. I do admit the box art seems off, but the actual build appears much better than the 2013 model.

Misfire

I am a huge fan of the UCS product line and have been buying them since the B-Wing. This is the first purchase that I would consider a major disappointment. There are parts of this set that I truly love, but they don’t outweigh the negatives. The biggest negative is the awful engineering job done on the movement of the S Foils. It is very loose and gets stuck frequently. There is no stop point and if you twist too far, the mechanism gets stuck. It also relies on rubber bands to hold the wings together. They are nowhere near strong enough to accomplish the task. The 2013 model had much better engineering on the S Foils using spring loaded pistons and a smooth deployment mechanism. This set seems like a cash grab since the last model was 10 years old. If they had better design, this could have been a great set and worth the money. As is, it is a failure.
Pros:
New body and nose shape look much better.
Back of model looks amazing.
Cockpit is a major upgrade.
Negatives:
Awful design for S Foil mechanism.
MAJOR wing sag.
Large gaps between body and wings.
Scale of large engines to short winds is comical.
Scale of R2-D2 is absurdly small.
Set is extremely fragile and parts constantly fall off.
I am very disappointed that Lego decided to release a 3rd UCS version of the X-Wing instead of doing a new model and decided to release one with this many glaring design flaws. This is the ONLY UCS model that Lego has released that I would not recommend purchasing.
