Flimsy but good looking build

As others have noted, this one is very flimsy. However, the completed model looks great. I built the previous UCS X-wing, and while I do like the looks of the new one, the mechanism to open/close the wings is MUCH better on older model (easier to turn/less of a worry pieces are going to break off). Overall a good model, but if you have the previous version, I’d probably pass on this one unless you are a completist.

Worth the Buy

I was a little nervous after reading reviews. After seeing it in person, i have no idea what people are talking about. Wings look fine, the mechanic to open wings works great, the nose looks fine, and the body of the ship isnt "too wide" to me.
Realizing how many casual lego builders there are. I had an issue that maybe lasted 5 minutes out of the hours it took to build. It was a tad challenging at times, but thats the point of getting bigger sets. Lego would be boring if everything was easy to build. Worth the buy

A disappointment

This is the most fragile of the kits I own in the UCS range. Too many components are held on by one or two 2 stud connections. This makes handling this kit absolutely maddening as you need to fix something every time.
The stand will break under the weight of the model if you rotate the stand without removing the model or lifting the whole thing. I'm disappointed in these obvious issues making it into production
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm not sure why some people are giving this set bad reviews. The only issue I had was the side panels being flimsy until they were secured by the nose piece. Beyond that it was a very enjoyable build and once completed it holds together very well. It's an excellent display piece and quite obviously wasn't designed to be played with. I absolutely love the finished product.

Love it to Tatooine and back

This was a fun build and you are left with a HUGE display X-Wing. I have not yet experienced any of the faulty stand. I also dont find it flimsy for how much weight it has to hold up. All together, this was well worth the money and looks great next to other Starwars models.

With the remake and the original x wing the remake has more detail and was easier to put together. Only thing I find upsetting with the remake is that they did not keep the same info on the data plate as the original.

A Fantastic X-Wing, at a high cost.

This is a dream x-wing model. The most accurate LEGO has released yet, by far. I cannot stop looking at it! A bit fragile in some places, but overall rather stable. If you LOVE the X-Wing Starfighter and can afford the very high asking price, go for it!

Nice Addition to the Star Wars Lego Universe

I was happy to get a copy of this X-Wing fighter as a UCS version. I enjoyed the build and did not have some of the problems mentioned in other reviews. At age 70, I've learned patience and gentle handling goes a long way in building these large and complex Lego models ( I'm veteran of the Millennium Falcon). That said, I have some suggestions for the Lego engineers. For example, in steps 189 and 232 you can see where a few more blocks could have been used to strengthen the nose sides. In step 207, more than two connections to the fighter frame could have been used . The two connections used in the back are not enough in my opinion and additional connection points would have solved the somewhat loose nose side panels. Using the nose cone to help keep these pieces in place was kind of weak. In step 294, using the two pieces indicated to attach to the stand to support the X-Wing model was ludicrous at best. As others have noted, these pieces keep falling off. I solved the problem with a couple of drops of Locktite Super-Glue. However, a much better support system should have been designed here. In my opinion, this is the weakest part of this model. Finally, in step 300, it looked like R2-D2 was a little low in the body. After reviewing the Star Wars movies and looking at the pictures in the assembly manual, I used a couple of spare 1-stud squares to raise R2-D2 up to a suitable height where, in the Star Wars movies he is seen "fixing" the fighter while in flight. Overall, I enjoyed building this model and I look forward to displaying it in my collection once a suitable display case is available.
