Very Disapointed

Lets start with the negatives. This X-wing can only be displayed with the wings open. When closed, they don't even come close to touching and droop down so low, it looks absolutely terrible. The scratched up canopy piece that was loose in the box, (they get points for not putting it in a bag with other pieces and lose points for not putting it in it's own bag to protect it) doesn't fully close and the control panel is pressed right up on it.
The mini-fig R2-D2 looks stupid since it is clearly out of scale with the rest of the model.
The side panels pop off when you try to attach other side panels until you manage to not touch the opposite side at all when pushing them into place. This probably took me 5 tires before I finally got them all on without knocking other ones off.
Lazily designed and doesn't present itself as a premium product.
Pros: The display plaque is printed.
More cons: There are still stickers in a UCS set intended for display, but at least there were only a few and they were decently easy not to completely mess up.
I've been wanting an x-wing for a while now since I never had the previous UCS model, but now I'm just disappointed.
I generally don't leave reviews, but I'm so annoyed after putting this thing together, here we are.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great to look at, but….

This thing looks great, though a little bigger than I was expecting. If your plan is to shelf it, have fun. Looks great with the wings in X formation….there’s where it ends though. The bottom wings sag so bad you can’t display it with the wings locked - looks terrible that way and the gaps are too visible like this. Also, if you touch it anywhere something falls off. Usually a side panel or an engine component from the back.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Expect better from Lego

The overall design of the X-Wing is great but the windshield piece is free floating in the box and I received mine with numerous scratches. It wouldn’t be to much to ask to ship it in a small paper bag to avoid this situation in the future.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So cool, and so disappointing

I really do like this set, however i also have way too many complaints with it. My main complaint is every time i want to remove it from the stand to show someone, I am picking up pieces falling off constantly when handling. The side panels are half the length of the build and are only held on by a total of 4 pegs.
It looks awesome on display but sadly that is all it offers. I will say the price seems fair which is nice with the recent price hikes for inflation.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A Beautiful Display Model

This is my first UCS set and I could not have been more pleased with the final display model. This is the most accurate and proportional looking X-wing Lego has released, given the tapering angles of the snout going into the back fuselage which is under-appreciated. The X-wing is my favorite Star Wars ship and this was a must have for me. I also did not like the design of the previous UCS X-wing which I felt lacked in accuracy.
My main issue with this set is that it is very fragile. Given I had not built a Lego set in over 5 years, I was very careful in attaching the side panels and did not have any problems. I do understand the reviews about the minimal attach points. You need to be gentle and careful and pieces will not come off. This set is a tug-of-war between design accuracy and sturdiness. I feel like in order to obtain the proper taper of the snout, sacrifices were made in terms of durability. Since this is a display model, I do not plan on moving this set and “swooshing” it, I’d rather have a more accurate looking set (after all this is a UCS set and not a play set). Second, the wings in closed position droop due to weight, I wish the mechanism to open the wings was much sturdier to support the weight of wings Because of this, I only keep this set displayed in attack position. Overall, buy this set if you are looking for an accurate display model but not one to mess around with.

I have in my collection all of the X-wing editions and I have to say I was very disappointed by this latest UCS version. I like the look which is fresh but unfortunately the reliability and stability of the panels is poor and reminiscent of the early 2000s sets. Recently all Lego pieces have been solid but not this one. I do not think it was worth the money.

Decent build but very fragile

I bought this for the May 4th celebration of Star Wars. I usually don't buy a kit this expensive but wanted it for my display of Luke's Landspeeder and other such items.
The build isn't bad and I expected some duplications due to the 4 wings. The wing mechanism does allow the wings to move but the Starfighter is very fragile once completed so I don't expect to use. It's fragility is really due to the wings and the balancing act that it takes on when it's on its base.

Great model!

The model here is great and I real appreciate the redesign. As my second UCS, the first being Slave 1, the fragility of this set is disappointing. I cannot pick up the set from any place without pieces flying off or panels of the ship falling off. Since it will mostly be display not a huge deal but annoying nevertheless. Also please give us some landing gear! I would love to display this off the stand but it is a big of a pain to do so.
