Don't get me wrong, this set looks phenomenal on display. The accuracy and attention to detail is what I've come to expect from the Star Wars UCS series. Unfortunately, the building techniques were a little sub-par. You probably won't encounter any issues until you start attaching the wings. The side panels that make up the body of the X-Wing are VERY loosely attached and will come apart if too much pressure is applied. If that happens while your wings are on.... sorry my dude, you're in for a headache.
I have been building and rebuilding for a week! I recently had surgery and figured this would be an awesome way to pass the time. Instructions are really good for someone that knows how to build these. But not a lot of specifics as to where bricks go. The forward fuselage is awful falls apart if you look at it wrong. I have attempted to hold the model to mount the wings…. The side panels fall off front and back, the engine front falls off etc. Do NOT hold the model for too long or it will fall apart. I have several of the cars and those are pretty solid this thing is an engineering joke! And I work in engineering for a defense company. There is not enough support on most of the connections. Please don’t purchase this product it is not worth the money or frustration and time!
This is certainly their largest X-wing, and it was a fun build however of all the UCS Star Wars sets this is one of the flimsiest. I expected a much more sturdy design so that the X-wing was "swooshable." Now I am afraid to look at it wrong and watch it crumble. This might be the first lego set I am disappointed with.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We're sorry to hear you're disappointed with your new LEGO® set. Please give us a call or chat at LEGO.build/Service-BV so we can get you set up with a workaround that helps stabilize it!
I enjoyed this build, and feel like too many people are looking really hard for things about which they can complain.
I build so I can have models, not to swish around my house. The wings are a little repetitive which is the only reason I took a piece off the overall build experience. I loved the order in which everything gets built, and seeing it all come together was a great time for me.
I hope people have far less buyer's remorse than they claim to have while voicing their opinion anonymously on the Internet.
Major bummer. My title says it all, such a let down and disappointing. All the other reviews are correct, flimsy side panels, scratches on description plate and cockpit cover. Words can’t describe what a let down this was.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have built quite a few Lego kits over the years, but this one should have spent a little more time in R&D. The wings are way too heavy for the opening and closing mechanism, which ruins the look of the ship because the wings will never stay fully open or fully closed. The panels are held on by very few stud connections, which causes them to just fall off. Even just sitting on my night stand the panes will just let go and fall off. When you try to put the panels that fall off back on, it only causes more of the side panels to pop off. As an example, the bottom side panel just in front of the engine fell off while sitting there, I went to put it back on and this caused the front panel on the opposite side to come off, which lead to about 30 minutes of frustration. The stand is probably one of the weakest stands I have seen. The pieces at the top that are mean to support the ship pop off as soon as the ship is put on the stand. Even the T-65 Starfighter sign will not stay attached to the base. Landing gear would have probably been a better option as with my Millennium Falcon UCS kit. The fins inside the engine intake do not want to stay in place and sometimes just pop out while sitting there. When it is all together is looks good, but keeping it together is the challenge. The Lego master builders should have spent a little more time with this one. I think that the price point for this set was too high for the quality of the build and the frustration of keeping it together.
I got this lego set a while ago and finally built it. I was very disappointed in the overall set. The stand is very unstable (for my set at least), which led to me having to rebuild the set because when the stand collapsed due to its poor design, the X-Wing broke, which was not what I was expecting to get buying this set (for clarification, the stand broke which made the set fall off of my desk which caused more of the set to break. Besides the stand breaking, there are other problems with peices falling off due to them being very poorly attached (they only get held on by one or two studs which make the peices fall off easily). Aesthetically, the set looks very good. But other than that, I really wouldn't recommend the set because of its poor design.
I consider myself an advanced builder having done the globe, the Lamborghini, the grand piano among other Lego models. I found this one to be the most frustrating. I’m only halfway through, and I’ve had to resort to glue to hold some of the pieces together. As noted in other reviews, the side pieces tend to fall off due to weak or minimal connecting points. At one point I tore the model apart and started all over again just to make sure that I had put it together correctly. Unfortunately I had, and the weak connecting points simply require glue in order to stay on. I would not recommend this product to anyone other than an advanced builder, who is willing to resort to glue in order to complete it.
