This was my first Star Wars Lego set. The building process was ok. Nothing too exciting about the process. When I finished, the product felt quite unstable. The body doesn’t stay on the base very well. When transporting it, came off easy. The tail engines also felt very wonky. Overall just not a very well designed product. What a shame.
This was easily the worst build I've ever had. I gave it two stars overall because it looks nice. The build and 'play ratings are basically 0 because the model falls apart if you breathe too close to it. Trying to attach the heavy wings without knocking parts of the hull off was essentially impossible. Very unsatisfying.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We're sorry you had trouble when building your set. Whenever something doesn't seem quite right, we're here to help! Feel free to get in touch at LEGO.build/Service-BV so we can take a closer look with you.
The wing design is substandard compared to other UC models. They're long thin bricks freely rotating with rubbers bands and a turntable piece (4517986) to keep them in place which do a poor job keeping the wings open and gives the model a "droopy" and lopsided look when closed. I wish they had used a sturdier construction for the wings with gear pieces to move them.
Not impressed with how fragile this model is. More specifically the entire nose is put together with just a few stud connections. Don't try to handle the nose it will collapse at the slightest pressure. The stand is also not what I would expect for a build this size. On the positive side the X wing function works well.
This has become my favorite set to build. I read some reviews stating that it falls apart easily, however, my experience was quite the opposite. This X-Wing build was fun to build and it was fun to see it come to life in its various phases. I handled the finished product often to test its durability and it held strong.
This set is an amazing set and piece to any Star Wars fan! And the details make it a must have set in your home.
Sadly, this is probably one of the worst sets I've purchased. The only real good part of the building experience was the wing mechanism, but not the wings themselves. Proportionally, it does seem fairly good, but I'm not really an expert on design. Only visual thing they could've done better would have been the section in front of the canopy. Fell like it should've narrowed up a bit. And, that brings me to the highly negative part of my review. First, the wings. I'm certain other reviewers have mentioned that there's too much wing droop due to the weight on the ends of the wings, without much in the way of core support. In the open position, you don't notice it as much, but in the closed position, you can clearly see the separation along the wings. But the main reason for my highly negative review has to be the engineering section covers. In order to achieve the angles required, the lego designer used the hinge bricks with the 2x2 hinge plates. Normally that wouldn't be a huge problem, but for whatever reason, I kept breaking them off. Normally one or two initially, but when trying to fix, ended up breaking most of them off. After several repair attempts, consulting the manual each time to make certain I had in fact built correctly, I gave up and finished the rest of the build. Sadly, after being on display for a couple months, the shelf it was on was tipped, and the model crashed to the ground. Too much of a pain to try and rebuild.
I was excited to get a new UCS X-Wing, but I was very disappointed. The build is fun and the minifigures are great. The problem comes once it is assembled... if you breathe on this set, it will explode. I'm used to sets that are fragile, but if you touch this set, then a piece on the opposite side with shoot off. The stand is a joke, and the panels near the wings are supposed to be held on by hopes and dreams. Looks great, just never touch it... Picture... I touched it...
