I’ve built quite a number of Lego sets at this point including several of the UCS Star Wars sets so I didn’t have as much trouble with this as some others have stated. I will say some steps require patience and a little finesse including the side panels of the main body, these could really have had a couple more anchor points when installed. This is resolved when the nose cone is installed but could be a little more solid still. The laser cannons are delicate also and take a little finicking to straighten out when installed. Still, when completed this set is amazing and perfect for a display model, just take your time and be easy with the mitts on assembly. The wing mechanism is really cool I love how they pull out the stops for the larger sets so you can display with the wings folded or in attack mode. Recommended and will look awesome next to the Interceptor which is being built next!

I always wanted this set back then in 1999, never had the money to get it back then, now some years later, Lego released it and I have good enough credit. It’s a must to have if a starwars fan

Not worth it

Been working on this set for a while now, I've picked up back up off and on. While working on the wings, the struts that actually connect to the body will fall off. I was able to put them back on multiple times without trouble. After assembling the actually wing, the weight is to much for the supports to hold the wing to the body. I attempted to reattach the wings back on but it became impossible because again the weight would snap them back off. I had to disassemble the entire body and after breaking off more pieces than I needed I finally gave up. It's just not a fun build and I will probably have to spend a significant more time trying to rebuild from the start.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Another Rubber Band X-Wing

The build was something I was really looking forward to, I'd waited a long time for another UCS X-Wing to release and waited a few months more after it arrived until we finished moving across the country. Needless to say, I was excited to finally building only to find out that it's wings were held up by the same rubber band system as the smaller sets. It's been 7 months since I built it and put it on my display shelf and now all I see is drooping wings and engines slowly going out alignment because of the amount of weight those bands have supported. There are designs out there to fix it with a sturdier gear system but it's a lot of work if you want to put in the time, but I would not recommend this set. The company should be disappointed in what they put out.

If you touch, it will fall apart

Worst USC Star Wars model by far in my opinion. Trouble with putting together, side panels kept falling off, the stand falls apart because of the models weight. If you bump it while its on display the side panels will fall off. The when you go to fix it, pieces and panels falling off everywhere. Terrible design.

Best X Wing version to date!

The best x-wing starfighter in my opinion. I had a great time building this set. There are few things like gaps between and when looking from the too of the wings. There are some very good techniques, mainly the system to set it in attack position. This set is not sturdy, just be mindful. The stand has some issues where the two pieces right under keep detaching so I just removed them.
Overall it is very good looking set and mostly accurate aside R2D2's size.
I was pleased to see that the canopy was bagged and not loose in the box as some reviewers mentioned.
