Looks Great Until It Crumbles

This is a set that upon seeing on shelves immediately made its way onto my wishlist. My favorite movie of all time is the 1986 Transformers Movie. This set is incredibly accurate to the source material in both the vehicle and robot forms. The biggest issue with this set is the process that it takes to go between these modes. The structural integrity of this set is among some of the worst that I have witnessed in any Lego sets. While transforming, you must go into it with the expectation that parts will 100% fall apart and must be scavenged for on the floor. If only four parts fall off during transformation, consider yourself lucky.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Since I'm a Transformers fan, I really liked this set. It has great detail and an OK price. The only part that was bad about this set is the thigh of Optimus Prime, which was really unstable. Overall, this is a great set!

Missing pieces

Overall this was a nice build and it's transforming ability is great. I was very disappointed however that my set was missing four pieces, the most I have ever experienced. This really detracted from the experience and I was only able to poorly substitute three of the pieces with ones I had of similar size and shape. Those really stand out from the distinct color scheme. The fourth piece is one of the silver ones on a gas tank and I have nothing to put there so is just a gap. Lego is a premium product that usually delivers a premium experience. The most missing pieces I had previously experienced were one from two much larger sets but usually they are all present. I hope this specific set was an anomaly in terms of there having been four pieces missing.

Fun Build

I have always been a huge fan of the Transformers franchise. This was a very easy set to build. I hope Lego creates a Bumblebee version one day to pair with it.

I received this set as a birthday gift. I was ecstatic and eager to start the build. It did not take long once I got going but I did enjoy the complexity. I love having Optimus Prime as part of my collection.

I was very excited for this set. I thought the whole idea to transform without rebuilding was a great concept. However, I would not recommend the set. The build was cool up until a certain point where every time I attempted to attach a part another part fell off. When I finished the build I attempted to transform it and well lots of parts fell off. Ultimately I spent about an hour rebuilding what fell apart and again when I went to just stand it up, something fell off and I had to fix it. I went through this process at least 3 times just to get it over on the shelf. Had anything else fallen off, I would have taken it all apart and sell it.
Overall, I really would not recommend this set. I still haven't been able to transform it and I am not trying again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
