Great for display only

Overall, I purchased this set as a fan of G1 transformers characters, especially Optimus Prime. The build experience was great and the finished product looks great on display. However, if someone buys the set for a child to play with, the child will probably be discouraged and disappointed when playing with it and it keeps coming apart. The legs are extremely heavy that. They come apart from the body if you hold it by its torso. You have to transform it slowly and carefully from robot to truck and back in order to keep it together too. I cannot recommend this set for play value. If you’re a fan of the character and looking for a good set for the build, I highly recommend this set. It also looks great on the shelf.

Missing two pieces

Bought this when it came out to build on birthday a few weeks later. Started building it poured out each bag for each step got to the end of bag 1 and noticed it’s missing two piece 4558954 to complete step 24. First time this has ever happen with any set I bought from the store.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Amazing Set, I want more Lego Transformers!

I have been wishing for this set for 20 years. The combination of Lego and Transformers is awesome!!! I bought the off brand of Optimus a few years ago and the quality was junk compared to Lego. I will buy every Lego/Transformers set that comes out!!! I love this set!!!

I know that this comment is very common for this item but for me as a huge Transformers G1 and LEGO fan, this LEGO set was something I was dreaming during my childhood!
The Figure and Truck looks awesome and I hope so that you will create at least Soundwave, Bumblebee... Unfortunatelly I have to mention that stability of this set is very debatable...
If you want to move figure leg part with the red light brick is always disassembles, if you want to place Ion Blaster in Optimus hand, hand has an issue to keep the position and hand is falling down...
I do not have an issue to change it into a truck like lot of fans and it is acceptable (not more) for me.

Rewarding Nostalgia

I built this set with my children on Father's Day; sharing the build and experience of Optimus being a father figure to me when I was their age. Definitely one of the most rewarding builds I've done in a long time. I highly recommend Optimus Prime if you are a fan of Transformers and LEGO!

Lots of Fun, but keeps coming apart

My son LOVED building this set. And he was so very excited to get it. Our only issue is that now that it's built, the body keeps separating from the legs. My kiddo is super careful, but whenever he transforms it, the legs always come apart from the body. He's had it built for a week and tried dozens of times but it breaks every time.
This is not stopping him from loving the piece, but I wanted to make sure others had this expectation in case the "transforming" part of this piece was very important to them.

Transformers

I never had the G1 Optimus Prime as a kid so when I saw LEGO was making a version that actually transforms I had to have it. It went together great and transforms easily. The only little complaint was the connection between the upper torso and legs could be a bit stronger as it has separated twice while finishing the build.
I would recommend this to a friend!
