[Employee of lego-global] This was my first set that I purchased to display in my home. The building instructions were very easy to follow and I loved the end results. It is also fairly simple to perform the transformation from Prime to truck mode.
I am satisfied with the end result of the set (looks wise), but transporting and transforming this set is an absolute nightmare. Anytime you try to move a part of the figure it ends up falling off or causing something else to break apart. Doesn't transform like it should, needs to be more robust.
First off I want to say is I’ve been waiting for a transformer Lego set for a very long time and what I got was pretty satisfying. I also want to get out all the cons of this set. First off all I would have liked this set with out the transformation feature mostly because you lose a lot of details in the robot form. Next is the possibility. When it’s in robot form you can’t bend the knees which doesn’t let you play with it very well or just displaying it.Last but not the least it is very fragile. The whole torso can be ripped a part with little pressure and that you can’t move the legs backwards and that the head is loosely attached. Now that we got all the cons out of the way let talk about some of the pros. Such as the opening chest window this is a great feature that lets you see Optimus primes matrix of leader ship. Another great thing is the blaster rifle he has because it is quite detailed and speaking of weapons they also include his laser axe which uses translucent orange pieces. So in conclusion I would recommend this to a friend who’s a fan of transformers but also mention the cons of this set because they’re pretty big.
The complete nostalgia factor is awesome. This set looks cool whether it is a truck or the Robot. Wish this had a trailer to go with it!! There are some issues while transforming it but anytime you have to move around a kit like this there are bound to be some minor issues. Great job on this one Lego well worth the money.
LEGO did a fantastic job recreating the look and transformability of the noble Autobot leader. He is fairly posable, though there are some mods on the web to add bendable knees to the model. While most of the transforming is smooth and he is sturdy, you do need to occasionally retighten some bricks in a few places after repeated transformations. Overall very clever and aesthetic to the original cartoon and toy robot.
I sincerely hope LEGO comes out with a matching Starscream. Way cooler than Megatron ever was, and who should be the rightful (wrongful?) leader of the Decepticons!
