14 months and died. Freakin Aluminum Heating?

heating element failed after 14 months. Then I come back here to see other reviews point out that the heating core is aluminum. UNACCEPTABLE. I would never have bought this had I known that aluminum was in any part that is exposed to heat and my precious coffee. Shame! You said it was all stainless steel. Very disappointed. I probably will not buy any Presto items in the future. You better hope I don't remember to sue when I get alzheimer's. Not kidding.

This percolator has to be seasoned/broken-in. You will not be impressed until about the 5th or 6th pot of coffee. But it is worth the wait. It has a nice weight to it and doesn't feel flimsy at all. It makes a great cup of coffee after it has been "seasoned'. I would have given it 5 stars if the components like the basket and pipette were stainless steel but they appear to be aluminum which I don't like.

We enjoyed coffee from our Presto percolator coffee maker every day for 16 years. We just bought a replacement and we will continue to use the new one -- for 16 or more years! Here are some reasons we are happy with the Presto percolator:
1- This coffee maker makes great coffee
2 - Think of all the disposable coffee filters and "pods" that we *haven't* thrown in the trash when we have used our Presto percolator.
3 - Think of all the fragile glass and plastic drip coffee makers that we *didn't* have to keep replacing every 12-18 months.
4 - The shape and design of the Presto percolator is retro and modern at the same time - a very stylish addition to our kitchen counter.
Thank you for making a solid, durable, practical, attractive, and functional coffee maker! YAY!

This pot makes wonderful, hot coffee in record time but it makes an awful noise. It sounds like it is grinding coffee beans for the first 2 to 3 minutes. I am returning because of that.

Poor design limits the usefulness

We purchased this 12 cup Presto electric percolator 2 weeks ago to replace our 12 cup Farberware electric percolator, which finally died after 6 years of almost daily use. The Presto pot works well if you want to make 2-6 cups of coffee, but anything more than that results in grounds flowing over the basket and into the pot of coffee. We initially tried making 12 cups, then 10, without a filter since the perforations at the bottom of the basket are tiny and we felt that would provide enough filtering. We also tried using the provided wrap around filters but were still limited to 6 cups at most. The basket is shallow and the perforations in the bottom do not allow for the heated water to drain quickly enough.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
