Top plate does not snap in

It would be great if the top plate snapped in like it's supposed to. I got it for my daughter's birthday party, so that way the girls could make waffles just for the top plate to burn one of them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love it!!! Only complaint is no timer or handle to open/close waffle iron as it gets very hot and you can burn yourself if you’re not careful!
