Great lock easy to install

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ultimately the product performs as advertised. The first one I purchased would not turn the deadbolt automatically and was very stiff. I thought it was my installation. I returned and purchased another one and checked the mechanism before leaving the store and it moved much free. The rest of the installation went well and it works great.

DIFFICULT HARDWARE INSTALLATION

I INSTALLED THIS TO REPLACE A FAILED KEYPAD LOCK, USING EXISTING MOUNTING HOLES; THE INSTRUCTIONS ASSUME THIS SITUATION. THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FINE FOR ORIENTING THE INNER AND OUTER LOCK COMPONENTS, MAKING THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AND BATTERY CONNECTIONS.
POSITIONING THE TWO LONG PHILIPS HEAD MOUNTING BOLTS THROUGH THEIR HOLES IN THE INSIDE LOCK PLATE IN ORDER TO ENGAGE THE THREADED RECEIVING HOLES IN THE OUTSIDE KEYPAD COMPONENT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. SOME ADDITIONAL ADVICE FROM THE INSTRUCTION SHEET COULD HAVE HELPED.
THE INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD SAY TO PASS THE SCREWS THROUGH THEIR HOLES IN THE INSIDE PLATE FIRST IN ORDER TO GET THEM PAST THE BLACK ODD-SHAPED PLASTIC PIECE WITH SLOT THAT THE LONG FLAT PART THAT ENGAGES THE DEADBOLT. IF THE MOUNTING HOLES WERE JUST 2-3 MM FARTHER APART, OR FARTHER DOWN ON THE INSIDE PLATE, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE.
GETTING THE MOUNTING BOLTS TO LINE UP WITH THEIR RECEIVING THREADED HOLES ON THE KEYPAD COMPONENT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FIRST BECAUSE YOU CAN’T SEE THE BOLT ENDS AND RECEIVING HOLES, AND SECONDLY BECAUSE THERE IS ZERO TOLERANCE FOR POSITIONING THE ENDS OF THE MOUNTING BOLTS. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH EASIER IF THERE HAD BEEN A TAPERED LEAD-IN TO THE RECEIVING HOLES.
FOR MY DOOR, THE SOLUTION WAS TO SAND THE MOUNTING HOLE ABOUT 2 MM WIDER. AFTER DOING THIS THE BOLTS COULD THEN BE ENGAGED WITH THEIR RECEIVING HOLES. THE INSTRUCTIONS COULD HAVE MENTIONED THIS. ONCE I DID THIS THE REST OF THE INSTALLATION WITH SMOOTHLY.
THE PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS WERE GOOD, AND PROGRAMMING WENT SMOOTHLY.
THE INSTALLED LOCK FUNCTIONS WELL, ESJPECIALLY AFTER APPLYING SOME DRY TEFLON LUBRICATION TO THE DEADBOLT. THE APPEARANCE IS GOOD.

Better than keys

We have found Schlage locks to be superior to other off brand lines. Nothing is more frustrating when taking off an old lock and trying to install a new one that is not working properly.
