Schlage Encode Plus Highly Deceptive

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The overall connectivity is highly unreliable, frequently disconnecting from Wi-Fi and resulting in an consistently substandard connection.
The interface design entirely fails to prioritize usability; the option to input code simply does not work at night or in low light, rendering it pointless. The numbers are difficult to see, and the interface is plagued with issues, making it ineffective. There is clear room for improvement, but at this price point, these flaws are unacceptable. The advertising claims of easy access are highly deceptive and misleading.
Regarding functionality, the button must respond reliably during evening and night hours, yet it consistently fails, forcing users to compromise one digit of their password and nullifying the security feature altogether.
Furthermore, the security rating is unequivocally poor—likely an F—due to persistent issues that compromise its purpose of providing secure access. In darkness, the utility of the key lock diminishes greatly because visibility is insufficient to identify the insertion point. Touchpads are ineffective in low-light conditions; turning on illumination is impractical. Durability concerns, such as battery degradation and component bending, further contribute to functional failures. While the overall feel is somewhat acceptable, it falls far short of high standards; it is functional but nowhere near exceptional. It deserves a rating of fairly good, likely an F, reflecting significant room for improvement.
For future purchases, I will definitely not buy this item again. I am actively seeking alternatives and will not return to this product. The value proposition is questionable given the high cost relative to its performance; the design and ergonomics are flawed. The touch sensitivity is adequate—smooth and unobtrusive—but overall, the product causes substantial business losses. I strongly advocate for a steep price reduction, as the current pricing is misleading.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Home Security Upgrade I’ve Ever Made!
After deciding it was finally time to take our home security seriously, I did a ton of research and landed on the Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt with Century Trim in Matte Black — and wow, I am so glad I did.
First, the look. The matte black Century trim is absolutely stunning on my front door. It has this bold, modern edge that immediately made my entryway feel more premium. Neighbors have literally stopped to ask about it.
The Alexa integration is seamless. I just say “Alexa, lock the front door” before bed and that’s it — no getting up, no second-guessing myself at 2am wondering if I remembered to lock up. The auto-lock feature also has my back as a failsafe, which gives me serious peace of mind.
What really sold me on the security side is knowing this lock carries the highest BHMA certification across security, durability, AND finish. This isn’t a gimmicky smart lock — it’s a genuinely tough, well-built deadbolt that happens to be brilliantly smart too.
The Schlage Home app is intuitive, setup took maybe 20 minutes, and the battery life has been impressive — no hub needed, just my existing WiFi. After years of relying on a basic deadbolt, this feels like a completely different level of protection. I sleep better knowing this is on my door.
10/10 !!!!

Great lock with great app and easy to use features

Set up with the app was just as easy. Integration with my property management software has been flawless. No issues so far. I've liked them so much that the one I installed on my house as a test is going to stay!

Don’t settle for cheap

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have tried cheaper brands, but this deadbolt was very much worth every penny! I replaced an existing conventional deadbolt on my lake house, and it was straightforward and easy. It’s very sturdy, and setup on WiFi was simple with interface connection instructions clear. I can check it and operate it from my iPhone and Apple Watch. The inside actuator is easy enough to turn for the kids to operate, and the outside keypad is easy to see and use. The bolt throw is more substantial than the conventional one I replaced, and is slightly tapered to facilitate its smooth entry into the reinforced door jam. In my opinion this thing is perfect. Exceptionally pleased!
