Thought I loved it!

We've had our Dyson for about 3 years now. The first battery needed to be replaced right around the first year of ownership. The company helped us get a new battery for free, which was great. That battery didn't even last 6 months, but we were out of warranty so we had to buy the next battery and then were told we shouldn't use the vacuum on max power, so we didn't once we got our third battery, which is now dead and has been for a few months. We tried to get any help from Dyson because we feel it shouldn't be dying so quickly and now it won't even charge at all and is not even usable. We are at the point where we need to get a new vacuum again but want something that will last longer than this one. I know people who love Dyson and that's why I got it in the first place, but they are too expensive to keep replacing. I'm pretty sure the initial problem was something other than the battery (ie with the vacuum itself), but that's what I was told when I called Dyson (took a long time to get an actual person to speak to also). I loved it when it was working!

Great vacuum

I love my Dyson! My son recommended it and it has made vacuuming so easy. I have 3 floors and it’s an absolute pleasure not having to tangle with a cord, unplugging and plugging. The attachments all work great for all of my cleaning needs. I highly recommend this wonderful product.

They missed the mark here

I have the same issues as some other people have experienced with the dust and dirt getting past the rubber seal when it shouldn’t, you also do have to stick your hand in there and pull stuff out to empty the bin all the way, and I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to not have just a on and off switch! It actually is really bad body mechanics to have to hold that trigger down and vaccine at the same time. Also straight out of the box brand new the red felt strip on one of the attachments peeled off half way and now gets Caught every time I use it. I’d say not worth 700 something price tag for sure NOT!

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you're not having a better experience with your V15 Detect. I can confirm, with regard to the trigger - this model does feature our light-touch trigger. Currently, the only models we have with an on/off switch would be our Omni-glide or the V12 models. I do appreciate your feedback on this feature!

If you're having trouble with dirt or dust in your clear bin, you can remove the bin from your machine, and check to make sure that the bin base seals are in place and seated correctly. We would also suggest checking the entry duct at the front of the main body and the cyclone inlet on the side, to make sure there's nothing clogged there, which can also result in the issue you are having.

NOT worth my time or money, HIGHLY disappointed!!

This is the worst vacuum I've ever owned. First battery that came with the machine didn't last, had to be sent a replacement that took way too long to receive. The new battery is just as bad. The runtime is terrible, I've had the battery charging for DAYS and when I went to use it today, it lasted 2 minutes max even on eco mode. I am so not impressed, if I could send this back today I would. I'm going to look into the return policy. If anybody asks me about my Dyson, I'm telling them not to waste their time OR money. Such a huge disappointment!!!!!!!!!!

It's really unusual to hear that the battery, right out of the box, would not last or charge properly. In term of run times you can expect, you'll get anywhere from 5-60 minutes, depending on power mode, dust level, floor type, and attachment/tool used.

Does not work & customer service unhelpful

The vacuum will turn on for a few seconds before turning off. I charged the battery, drained it, recharged again and all for the same result. Apparently the only solution is for me to take time off work to drive to a town 20 miles away where there’s a service center. If I hadn’t tossed the box, I would have returned it. Do not recommend unless you have a service center close by to handle issues.

Heavy, Annoying to Use

So disappointed with this vacuum; I purchased because I was excited about the larger bin and more power. First, the larger size means its seriously heavy...and cumbersome...and no longer provides to quick and easy convenience that I love about my V8. I could deal with this, however, I don't find the power to be any more effective than my V8 unless its in "turbo" mode, which you have to select every time (won't default)...which is mildly annoying, but then my lcd display stopped working, which means I can't switch modes at all anymore. And the last straw, the roller mechanism for floors frequently stops in our low pile rugs, which was never an issue with our V8. The laser mechanism also has never worked either, but I didn't see any value to that anyway, so no real loss there. I decided to return and buy another V8.

Thank you for your review. This is Miella from Dyson. We're sorry to hear of your experience with your Dyson V15 Detect cordless machine. While the larger capacity does give it a bit more weight than the predecessors, we still designed the V15 Detect to be easy to maneuver with the cordless feature coupled with the strong suction power.

The machine has 3 modes: eco mode, auto mode and boost mode. The eco mode and auto mode are ideal for the majority of cleaning tasks, and the boost mode is available for a temporary boost of power for particularly stubborn messes. It's not designed to be the main power mode used, but is there if needed.

We're sorry to hear of the LCD display and the laser mechanism not functioning. This is definitely peculiar, and not what we expect. Our Dyson experts are available by phone, live chat and email to assist with any issues that may arise. The V15 Detect, when purchased directly from Dyson or an authorized retailer, is backed by a 2-year manufacturers warranty as well.

We hope you continue to consider Dyson products for your home in the future.

We returned our v12 and got this because of various reasons. We were surprised when we realized you had to manually hold the trigger down while vacuuming. My husband is a wheelchair user and this is not very efficient for him. And it is honestly quite annoying. Also the charging platform that you hang the vacuum on is quite flimsy. For the price I would expect something sturdier.
