[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Perfect speaker to take on the go or to use for the house. Over the weekend i mostly used the speaker in my home for a small get together with friends and family. I was most impressed with the battery life and sound quality. Its very light so traveling with it especially to the beach or going for a hike will be easy. Another great feature im a huge fan of is the ability to charge your phone! With that being said i highly recommend looking into getting one for yourself.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Choosing a Bluetooth speaker is never easy. There are hundreds to choose from at every price point and with every type of feature. The JBL Charge Essential 2 not only sounds great, but has an extra added feature that everybody will need sooner or later. Like other JBL speaker I’ve owned, the Charge Essential 2’s sound is clear and crisp with a thumping bass. Every type of music sounds great coming out of this tall boy styled speaker. And if you really want to crank it up around the pool or at the beach, don’t worry, it gets plenty loud and it is waterproof. The sound is great and all, but what sells this speaker is the added USB charge port for your phone. It’s not a trickle type charger, it is lightning fast. So you can jam out to tunes from your phone and never worry about not having enough power to go all day. My only dislike about this speaker is that it needs some kind of handle or strap to carry it around. It’s fat in the middle, and if you don’t have big hands, you will have to cradle it like a football to carry it around. If you want a Bluetooth speaker with a powerful sound, and the added ability to charge your phone at the same time, go get you a JBL Charge Essential 2. You will not regret it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just reviewed the charge essential 2. It was an okay sounding speaker; but not great. Smaller JBL units had much better sound than this. The sound falls short in the higher sound range; maybe tweeters can be improved.
Now for the good, the longer play time means less plug time and charge time. The really nice option is the water proof option is great for in shower, around pool and car washing. Think this is great for summer coming around the corner.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using this speaker in my living room, home gym and while at work. So far what I've noticed is how well balanced the sound is between the highs and lows. The bass is perfectly balanced and it's amazing how clear music sounds even if you turn up the volume and it's definitely not missing out on lows. While other speakers overtake the bass as you turn up the volume, this speaker balances out perfectly on high volume and you can still enjoy high quality sounding music. A feature that came in handy for me was being able to charge my phone with the speaker and it's nice that it had the new USB type C port that almost all phones have now a day. If you're looking for a single speaker setup that you can take anywhere in a backpack this one is for you. Even though this speaker doesn't pair with other JBL Bluetooth speakers, this single speaker packs a punch by itself. Lastly, it goes without say, but JBL makes some good looking speakers.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy and intuitive to use straight out of the box. This speaker has quickly become one I take with me to hangout with friends in the backyard. Perfect for playing some music while playing disc golf or sitting around a fire. The size, volume, and battery life make this speaker a must have when hanging out at home or with friends.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have not put this wonderful sounding JBL Charge speaker away sin e it arrived. I'll start with the charge on the Charge. Turned it on at 3:30 PM and it's 12:06 AM and it still has the 5 charge indicator lights. Sound: You can actually hear the voices clearly in every song. The base is strong and clear, in other words, no vibration. Excellent JBL. You will be as satisfied, if not, better than me. I will recommend this speaker to my family and of course, my friends.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Charge 2 has very clear and crispy sound, great battery life, charges quickly, and it's very durable. The weight isn't bad. Would be very easy to pack along anywhere you go. The sound is so powerful it fills a 900 sqft apartment. Best portable speaker yet!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Charge Essential 2 was super easy to pair with my iPhone and get started. As will all JBL gear, I found the sound quality to be clear, well-balanced and natural out of the box. I expected a little more beef on the low end for the speaker size, but it's still pretty good. As expected, the speaker volume is a notch louder and more present than the smaller JBL speaker models, like the Flip. But I was disappointed to find that turning the volume up past about half way on my iPhone quickly degraded the sound quality. The up-tempo Rock I was playing sounded increasingly unbalanced and shrill in the mids at the louder volume. Below the halfway volume point the sound quality is very good, but that's a lot of unusable volume range. For ambient music or background music while you work, that is acceptable. But if you want to crank the volume to fill the room with party music, this speaker will likely disappoint.
As for features, this "essential" version of the Charge really is no frills, with no ability to link with other speakers for stereo playback or PartyBoost, no call answering, and no app integration to customize EQ. By design, it's just a Bluetooth speaker with an output charging port. However, The lack of app integration to customize the EQ is really missed as I consider that feature essential to tailor the right sound from any speaker and to match the music style and audio tastes of the listener. In the case of the Charge Essential 2, it might be even more critical to help achieve an EQ profile that would allow for louder volumes with a more balanced sound.
With such limited features, this speaker's remaining value proposition needs to be killer sound quality, especially at the price point. But on this mark it just falls short. I honestly think I'd rather have the Flip 6 for almost half the price and have the EQ feature since the sound quality of the Charge Essential 2 over the Flip 6 at lower volumes is just not that different. If the charging output feature or higher volume are must-have features for you, I'd recommend skipping the Charge Essential 2 and springing for the full-featured Charge 5 to get EQ capability.

We appreciate your feedback. We hear you. We always look for ways to improve our products. Our JBL Charge essential speaker is a Bluetooth basic speaker and it doesn't come with portable app capabilities. We recommend our JBL Charge 5 that comes with an optimized driver, a separate tweeter and a dual bass radiator for that impressively clear and rich audio, comes with portable app capabilities.
