[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I genuinely wish I had this awesome emergency radio during the winter storms here in Texas. For a week, we were without major utilities, so keeping up with the news was hard. Well, this radio is a staple in my home now and it has a ton of cool features! Doesn't weight much, sleek looking design, has hazard lights, a flood light, USB outlet, and a crank for backup power!! I'm not too familiar with all the emergency stations but I know that S.A.M.E alerts are there. You also have AM/FM radio and an alarm clock! I mean...this is a beast of a product and every home should have one! OH and I forgot, on top of a hand crank and recharging battery, you even have a solar panel if you need it. This is a fantastic radio and you will not regret your purchase!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We live in the South and get a good amount of bad weather here, mostly wind storms and thunderstorms that knock out our power for hours. We recently had an ice storm that became a blizzard the next day. We didn't lose power thankfully but I felt good knowing that I had this super handy radio charged and ready to use if needed. It's a bright color, easy to locate when needed. The flashlight and phone charger would be very useful, and it has a bottle opener built onto it as well. I love that it can be charged by solar panel or hand crank. The speakers perform better than I expected, they sound pretty good! There are so many features of this radio that I haven't even fully explored yet. I am very happy to own it but hope that I never have to use it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So we ended up getting this right before Texas got hit with the back to back snow storms. I was seriously so glad we had this available to us, it helped us so much for the times we didn't have any power. Set up took a bit of time but I'm glad that I got it set up as soon as we got this in the mail. I absolutely highly recommend this product...you will be very thankful you have it when you need it.

A fantastic jack of all trades!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As an avid outdoorsman who spends much time at the river and lakes, fishing, camping and hiking, I love devices that serve multiple purposes, and can be powered by Mother Nature herself. And fortunately, the Storm Chaser Emergency Wireless Speaker by Altec Lansing is a perfect jack-of-all-trades, an excellent compliment to outdoor, off the beaten path living!
Light, with a comfortable handle and sturdy exterior, the Storm Chaser is easy to tote, and able to weather the bumps and bruises that inevitably happen when braving the outdoors. I’ve dropped and knocked this thing over a few times and it is no worse for the wear. I anticipate it lasting quite a while judging by how it has held up on my adventures so far.
Charging it fully from an outlet takes about 2 hours, and when I’m outdoors on site, I let the solar panel constantly pull in energy, so I can’t say how long it would take from drained to full. There is also a hand crank for emergency energy, and fortunately I haven’t needed to use it aside from turning it so I could run the flashlight for a few minutes when packing up after a long day.
The speakers have a robust, full sound, not overwhelmingly loud, but definitely sufficient for a campsite. On a speedboat running full out, the wind will drown it out a bit, but only slightly.
There is so much this thing offers, it really is a great thing to keep in the car, from the LED panel which would be great for changing a tire, to the emergency flashers that can help keep you in sight and safe. There is even an SOS signal that I’m happy to report I haven’t had to use.
There is even a bottle opener on this thing (which I’ve used at the house when I misplaced my usual one. It works like a charm, and is such a thoughtful addition it gives me great confidence that Altec really spared nothing in designing a great companion for the outdoorsmen in each of us. The radio works well (due to the extendable antenna), and the NOAA weather alerts come through loud and clear, which adds a peace of mind when you’re out on a lake and you see a storm darkening horizon.
You can charge your phone on it, but I’ve used this very sparingly, but again, it’s great that it is there if I need it. The flashlight is reasonably bright, and the panel is excellent at lighting larger areas. The Bluetooth works seamlessly, and I’ve never had any issue getting my phone to connect to it.
I only have two very minor quibbles, and they don’t affect my enjoyment of the product at all, but first, the storage netting is under the LED panel, and really can’t hold anything more than ID’s or credit cards (or at least that's what I use it for). Again, out of the lake, where you need access to funds, it works perfectly for such use, but around a campsite the storage net doesn’t really offer any useful function that I’ve found. Again this is a very minor complaint, as i didn’t get the Storm Chaser for storage, so it’s a perk I really do appreciate.
Also, I don’t love that you can’t turn off the indicator light (or perhaps you can, but I haven’t figured out how.) It lets you know how much charge it has, which is handy, but if you are sensitive to light, and don’t want a green light glaring at you in the middle of the night in a tent, then you may want to bring some electrical tape to hide it in the evenings. Personally I don’t mind it, but I would prefer a way to turn it off.
All that said, this thing fills the role of so many separate tools, it has become an essential companion when I’m heading out, whether to the backwoods or my backyard. Great job Altec, I highly recommend!
